The subject just came to me. Has nothing to do with the ensuing topic.
Backstory: This cute (very) russian girl (Diana) has been in a class I’ve had all year (both semesters) called colloquium. I noticed her the first day, but we really never had a reason to talk until midway through this semester. We hit it off right away.
She showed up in work a few days later, and we talked for a while, and we realized that we both know ALOT of the same people, both at school, and at my work. The next time I saw her in class, I mentioned what an odd coincidence that was, and she got kinda embarrassed about something. I asked my friend Nick (who she had been at my workplace to see) what that was about, and he swears he doesn’t know. He does tell me she has a boyfriend who’s out somewhere on the west coast for college.
She started sitting next to me in class every day we had it (wednesday only). She even talked to professor into voiding one of my absences so I wouldn’t get into trouble. She would bring the school paper, and we’d do the crossword, talk, laugh, and generally ignore the teacher. Then, she mentioned she had nothing to do after class and asked me to the movies. I had to decline, I had to work.
The next week, she asked me again, and seemed quite disappointed when I again had to turn her down. “Okay, it’s okay, no big deal… ::sigh::” I believe were here words. I made sure I didn’t have to work the next week.
Next week rolls around, last day of this class, and we’re doing an outside thing. I mention I don’t have to work, and she asks if I still want to go to a movie. Okay. We sit at a table with some friends, chat, laugh, and do the crossword. She sits closer than is necessary, but I (obviously) don’t mind.
I show up at our friend’s apartment at movie time, and it turns out friend is going too. No biggie. So we all go to the movie, seating position friend, me, her. The entire movie she’s on my armrest, leaning into me, and we make fun of the movie pretty much the entire time. We kind of ignore the friend who came the whole time.
Afterwards, we go to a party (which was pretty lame). There was a couch. [____] I sat [_X] and she sat down [__XX]. There was ample room, but she sat practically in my lap. No problem here. We talk, laugh, etc. for a while, then a friend calls me into another room. When I get back, she’s looking at a sex book. She points to a pic of fellatio, and says “I think you’d like that one”, I laugh and say “Y’know, I just might. I’ll have to try it some day.” Then I point to a pic of cunnilingus and say “You may like that one” and she says “Probably. Might have to try it.” Friend again calls me into the other room. I go, and when I get back (about 15 min later), she’s gone.
I called her the next day, she sounds happy to hear from me, and ask why she left. She says that she HAD to leave. I asked if she had a curfew or something, and she says that no, there was drinking, and if she had stayed, she would have had something to drink, and then would have probably done some stuff she’d regret later. Okay, fine by me, I figure I know what she’s implying. She doesn’t want to go anywhere TOO fast. I ask her out for Friday night, and she says that she already has plans with a friend from HS, but invites me along. I politely decline, offer to call her this week with directions to my summer abode, and hang up.
Now, today, I was at 1st (movie) and 2nd (talk) friend’s apartments, and they mention my call to Diana. They then tell me that I shouldn’t like her, because she tends to get guys in debate (she’s in debate) to like her, then has someone tell them she has a boyfriend. They think that’s what’s going on.
Okay, my problem is, I already know she has a boyfriend, I’m pretty sure she knows I know. Even before we knew each other, I had caught her looking at me a few times. Since we met, I’ll catch her looking at me alot, and she either looks away quickly, or smiles. She also catches me looking at her sometimes. She asked me out three times, even though I turned her down twice. She asked me to come with her on Friday, even though she already had plans. We get along great, case and point: one week, she had already done the crossword. I made a big fake fuss, and the next week, she brought a newspaper into class and was very assuring that she hadn’t done it yet, and let’s do it! She always sits VERY close to me whenever she can, laughs even when I’m not funny, pays close attention when I talk, etc. All the classic signs.
I don’t know the case history of the other people she’s supposed to have ‘led on’, but it sounds to me like this may be different from what happened to the guys in debate. I don’t want to follow this up all summer and have it be a big ol’ fuckover, so I present to you, the ladies and gentlement of the jury, What do YOU think?

Oh yeah! Before the movie, we were discussing a girl known as “Hot Erin” and how she should be demoted to “Erin”. That got us on the subject of body shape, and friend asked what body shape Diana had, describe it, etc. Diana got very embarrassed. After movie, we were talking about something or other, and friend says “Pretend you have a crush on Diana, then.” I was like “I dunno if I can do that, it’d be wierd…” and smiled at Diana, she kinda smiled and looked down. So anyway, continue with your deliberation.
