Header & Footer stopping at Page 10

When I do Page Numbering on Word 2000 I cannot get the Header and Footer program to make page numbers higher than 10. The numbering starts again, at 2 where 11 should appear. How do I correct this?

It sounds like you have a section break at the end of page 10. Try viewing the page in layout (I think) view with the very small buttons in the lower left corner. That should show where all page and section breaks are, and you should be able to delete it.

What happens when you go to the 20th page? Do you have an 11, or does it go back to 2 again?

Odds are on page 10 you’ve got a “Section Break” or “Reset Page Numbering.” There are fixes or you could just send the doc to me by e-mail (if it’s not confidential or sensitive) and I’ll take a shot at it.

I’ll have to look for the section break; the document was originally produced with a legal document “wizard.” It’s an opening brief and I filed it with an appellate court, but I still have the original on my hard drive so I can try your suggestion…

Speaking of headers. I have a document where you enter the header information when you open it. It is a memo letterhead. Thing is, I dont want this letterhead to appear on anything but page 1. How do I make it appear only on the first page?

Go to File, Page Setup. In the Layout tab, select Different first page. Just remember that thereafter, if you want to modify your headers, you have to check both the first page header and the regular header.

Re: Page numbering in Word 2000. IIRC, Word 2000 had a lot of bugs in page numbering. If nothing else works, make sure you’ve gotten all the updates and service packs installed. Seems like that fixed most of the problems I’d had.

And where do I go for those?

Microsoft dot com, usually.
