Healthcare reform act negotiations -- timeline.

So my brother in law and I are in a heated exchange over e-mail, and one of the topics is about Healthcare reform. In the itnerest of keeping this GQ-able, I’l stick to simply the factual point being debated.

He insists that the Republicans were locked out of the dialogue from the beginning. My position is that they efectively locked themselves out by taking obstructionist positions from the get-go. I am having a hard time finding articles outlining how it all began and how it unfolded.

I am interested in articles from mainstream news sources, including CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX that detail factually which position, if any, is correct. I am willing to be educated on this if my opinion should prove wrong. I cannot say the same for my BIL, but I’ll give it a try nonetheless.

Hopefully this does not break the rules. Again, I am looking merely for links to articles which detail how the bill evolved beginning at the earliest stages. Political commentary of the likes that one side or the other are evil, or overstepping what governments should do, are not welcome. I am solely interested in how the political process worked in this instance.

Thanks!

Senator Grassley (R-IA) admitting his ideas were included in the bill.

The bill that was passed last spring, was actually quite similar to a bill proposed by 23 Republican senators in 1993 as their response to the Clinton proposal.

Thanks everyone, I am making a little headway here. It’s incredibly difficult to find info on this after the fact, however. Each of us has our own perception of how it went down, and each thinks the other side is to blame for the need to “deem and pass” the legislation.

Google, when properly massaged, provides a literal “timeline” of articles relating to health care reform. The link goes to a timeline that has been limited to 2009, but you can fiddle with the settings as need be.
