Hedwig and the Angry Inch *SPOILERS*

Someone please tell me what was up with the end of this movie. Hedwig does the big show, then she takes off the wig and slips into a Tommy Gnosis performance, then comes out of it with the Tommy Gnosis silver cross on the forehead and then wanders off naked? So was Tommy Gnosis supposed to be some sort of alter ego of Hedwig, or vice versa? Or does the fact that we saw them together in the limo proof that they were separate people, and if so then what did the ending mean?

Remember that the theme of the movie is stated in the song, “The Origin of Love” the myth from Plato’s Symposium that humans were originally bound together; some were two men back to back, some two women, and others were a man and a woman. The gods split them apart and ever since then people have been looking for their lost other halves.
For Hedwig, Tommy was her other half who “got the luck, the looks, the good stuff.” When Tommy was singing “Wicked Little Town” to Hedwig, he gave back, in a mystical fashion, the qualities that Hedwig had given Tommy, including the fish design on his forehead. In turn, during the last song, “Midnight Radio,” Hedwig abandons the drag and reclaims his true self. In the same way, Hedwig gives Yitzak his wig which enables Yitzak’s true self, an utterly fabulous drag queen, to emerge.
The last scene shows Hedwig, all disguises abandoned, facing the world in his fully integrated and whole persona, as shown by his changed tattoo. Mind, that’s just my interpretation, YMMV.

God, I love that movie.
