I’m glad he’s in there to make the environment a priority among candidates, but I don’t think he’s gonna get the big brass ring. Climate change is an important issue, but it’s not a “winning” issue.
Probably not now. Wait until Miami Beach is under three feet of water.
You may not like this news:
John Hickenlooper is close to a decision about a 2020 presidential bid, with the campaign eyeing an announcement in Denver as soon as next week.
The former Colorado governor received a permit to hold an event March 7 in the amphitheater at Civic Center park, according to records obtained by The Colorado Sun. The disclosure comes a day after The Sun cited several sources close to the Democrat who said that he would announce a bid the first week of March.
Is American ready for a President who drinks hydrofracking liquid? I guess we’ll find out.
I’m crossing Biden off my list of potential candidates, based on his comment about Pence. He should be aware of Pence’s record on LGBTQ issues, and if he’s not, that’s even worse. There are enough other candidates who are consistently supportive on LGBTQ issues, we don’t need someone who’s supportive only when he feels like it.
What was Biden’s comment about Pence? You mean calling him a “decent guy”? Then saying " I was making a point in a foreign policy context, that under normal circumstances a Vice President wouldn’t be given a silent reaction on the world stage," he said. “But there is nothing decent about being anti-LGBTQ rights, and that includes the Vice President.”
Context is everything. In Foreign Policy, Pence isnt that bad. He’s not a loon like Trump.
So, by no means does this mean Biden supports Pence on gay rights. And i see biden is getting a lot of flack on this, typical attacks on any Dem candidate, trying to make us say things like “I’m crossing Biden off my list of potential candidates” based upon one off hand out of context remark.
That is exactly that what the kremlin and GOp wants us to do.
Cross off all the strong candidates based upon silly crap.
Oh for god’s sake. I guess this tiny thing is being wound up pretty high on Gay twitter.
Pushed by the kremlin, no doubt.
Linky?
Jay Inslee really impressed me on ABC’s This Week today. I think this guy’s got the juice–he’s the first candidate of the cycle I could really envision as president. And his signature issue is not one of my top priorities, so it’s all the more impressive that his optimism and energy really got to me.
I approve of Inslee’s bipartisan office decor: http://homelesslivesmatterberkeley.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/15540/washington-gov-jay-inslee-announces-2020-presidential-bid-8211-cnn-850x478.jpg
Bernie’s US Senate website still describes him as an Independent, not a Democrat:
His campaign website is also curiously missing the words “Democrat” or “Democratic.”
Basically, Biden was talking about Pence getting the silent treatment at an economic forum. He was saying that the Trump stigma is so bad that it happened even though Pence is a “decent guy”. Since Pence is anti-LGBTQ, Biden should never ever ever have paid him even this faintest of compliments.
Joe Biden said something nice about Mike Pence. Big mistake.
Google pence & Biden. There’s like a zillion stories on this.
Biden is way down my list regardless. But if I were to offer him some free advice, bending too far over to placate the left wing of the party is not strategic. He won’t get their primary season votes regardless, but he will get their general election support because Trump is so awful. So no sense in tarnishing his potential general election appeal to Rust Belt swing voters by appearing to bow to political correctness.
But there is so much to not like Biden for there is no need to rely on one out of context remark. This Harper’s article is very long and pretty complete on the topic:
Right now he has my vote, even though he’s unlikely to still be in the race by the time Oregon’s primary comes around. Will still vote for him, even if I have to write him in.
I really have trouble understanding why every senator running is taken seriously, but a *governor *of a decent-sized, economically dynamic and influential state is written off as a dark horse. Governors, like senators, are elected statewide; but only one per state instead of two, they have more power and responsibility, and the job is better training for the presidency.
What a surprise! A attack piece on the leading polling Dem candidate!
Surprise, surprise, surprise!
Hickenlooper is in.
Jay Inslee appears on MSNBC in July. He calls the Trump Administration “diabolic.” They don’t answer his letters. ( Shouldn’t a Governor get answered?) Here’s his 30-minute announcement to run for President.
I see many reasons to like him, and many stances he can be proud of. I think he should highlight other ideas besides just climate change.
Jay Inslee for President
I think that any Senator or Governor should be taken seriously. I mostly hadn’t heard of Inslee prior to his announcement, but of course there’s time to remedy that.
