Then why did you not simply write “There’s nothing wrong with Democrats being ‘woke’”? Adding “or defending the Dreamers” strongly implies that I asserted there was something wrong with both of those things, and that is false.
A possible ray of sunshine: Low-Income Republicans More Likely to Be Economically Progressive
Not at all surprising, and that’s why I have said repeatedly that once the economy slows down, Trump is in very, very serious trouble. Hell, he’s already in trouble. People don’t like him. But he still has a 50/50 shot of winning because of the economy. Take that away, and he’ll really need election rigging to win.
(I’m pulling my post to chew on it some more.)
Oh man, that one must have been a doozy.
Bernie Sanders posted on FB last night that the House should immediately begin impeachment proceedings against Trump. Did I miss something or is this a new position for him?
Maybe it has to do with:
And…
In short, within the past 48 hours, Trump has said two things:
-
He’ll gladly conspire with Russia or any other foreign government to subvert our elections process;
-
He is saying that Congress no longer has the authority to put a check on his power, that in his view, Article II is more important than Article I, and maybe Article I doesn’t even exist anymore.
Yes, I think so. The FB post included a link to a news story about point 1.
Via the WaPo’s Dave Wiegel:
Self-centered asshole.
Dammit, we need 50+ Senate seats; without that, a Dem President won’t be able to get jack shit through Congress. And the road to 50 is a hell of a lot tougher if Cory Gardner wins re-election next year. And Hickenlooper’s pretty much a slam dunk to defeat Gardner.
Maybe some other Colorado Dem can beat Gardner. But nobody seems to doubt that Hickenlooper can. Meanwhile, there’s absolutely no reason to think whatever Hickenlooper brings to the Presidential race is exactly irreplaceable.
Run for Senate, asshole. It’s where you can do the country the most good.
If he thinks that, no, he’s not a good candidate for Senator. He’s a vain fool who shouldn’t be in politics.
I have sympathy for him and Bullock and any governor who would relish an even higher chief executive position, but who has zero interest in being part of a deliberative body.
I’m not going to trash Hickenlooper - he seems like he’s been a good governor and he wants to take his skills to Washington as president. I can think of 10 or 15 candidates we should ask to step out of the race before Hickenlooper.
Trump may not want to be impeached, but if he’s going to be impeached, which he probably assumes, then he wants it to start now. He’s clearly ‘trolling the libs’ with each passing day. Tonight he’ll probably declare himself NBA commissioner and suspend the rest of the Finals as retribution for the Warriors not visiting the White House last year.
You just described half the Senate.
Sympathy, yes.
But they know how crucial the Senate is, and how much of a difference each good Dem candidate for a GOP-held seat makes in moving the odds towards a Dem takeover. If they’re going to put their 50-1 chance of winning the Dem nomination ahead of the needs of their country to that extent, then fuck 'em.
If Hickenlooper, Bullock, and Bennet in particular don’t move the needle in the first debate, they need to give up on the Presidency, pronto, and run for/stay in the Senate.
Not to mention, if the Dems beat Trump and win the Senate, they’ve got the chance to be part of some really major legislation. They could be doubly part of history: part of winning the Senate to make it all possible, and then part of creating and moving the legislation.
When push comes to shove, we just need someone who will vote ‘D’ on the big stuff, like organizing the Senate, killing the filibuster, and DC statehood.
Once DC’s two Senators are seated, we can let them off the reservation every now and then.
What if they drop out of the presidential race early but don’t run for Senate? Will you be angry at them? I will be disappointed but not mad. I am a slacker, and you will never see me fault someone for refusing to apply for a job they know they will hate.
And it should be statehood for Puerto Rico in addition to DC! In some sense, they have the stronger claim.
This was actually the defense of Trump offered by a GOP congressman on FOX News! He said he was confident that Trump would call the FBI if he actually was offered oppo dirt by a foreign country, but he just says otherwise to wind up Democrats. :smack:
So does that mean it would be “all’s fair” for a Democratic president to sit in the Oval Office and tell an interviewer that he was about to sign an executive order confiscating all guns? Or that every teenager in the country would be rounded up and shipped to socialist re-education camps?
OK, with that, Hickenlooper just lost all support he had from me. He’s asking not what he can do for his country, but only what his country can do for him.
I dunno. I thought it was funny. Ill-advised, but funny.
I don’t understand the Hickenlooper hate. He’s just giving it a go. He’ll probably be finished by the end of summer, and he would still have time to mount a pretty strong Senate campaign if he wanted to go in that direction, though he might want to take that quip about the senate back.
