Indisputable fact #1: Helena Bonham Carter’s in nearly everything Tim Burton does.
Indisputable fact #2: Helena Bonham Carter’s a little odd.
Indisputable fact #3: Tim Burton’s movies are more than a little odd.
Indisputable fact #4: HBC and Tim Burton are in a long-term relationship.
Now… is HBC in a relationship with TB because she’s a little odd, and she’s in his movies because she’s in a relationship with him?
OR
Is she a little odd because she’s in a relationship with him, and she’s also a little odd because she’s in his odd movies??
OR
Is she in his movies because she’s a little odd, and she in a relationship with him because she’s in his movies?
OR
Are his movies odd because she’s a little odd and in them?
OR is there no cause-and-effect at play and it’s all independent acts of randomness?
1 and 4 from the OP look like they could be facts. 2 and 3 are opinions, and would be even if you proved that every single person on Earth agreed with them. It’s not that I care that much, but the phrase “indisputable facts” followed by non-facts raises my hackles a bit.
My ex-wife was at pre-school with Tim Burton. (At least, she is fairly confident it was him.) She says he was a little odd (and in the sort of way you would expect) even then.
Back then, I think a lot of HBC’s “oddness” was due to the fact that she dressed like an impoverished hipster college student in her off-time which, according to some uptight Brits, was supposedly beneath someone from an affluent family who was the great granddaughter of a Prime Minister. H.H. Asquith. (And yes, I agree that as an American, this is something I know too much about.)
As for now, her oddness is more self-aware and calculated. Because of her past and her connection with Tim Burton, people expect her to be odd so she plays odd by dressing weirdly.
