Hell freeze over-or Guin gets a job

No, a real job. With pay and everything.

I start tomorrow morning, a data entry position with a mortgage/insurance company. It’s temp to permanent, so hopefully it’ll work out, but if not, it still gets me some experience.

I think I’m gonna puke. (Not so much because I’m unhappy, but just from nerves)

OH MY GOD! But how are you going to post … you know… SOOO Much???

Congrats!!!

Congratulations Guin!!! Way to go! Now just swallow that nervousness and dazzle the shit out of 'em.
Oh, and don’t break a leg. You’ll need those to wear heels. :stuck_out_tongue:

WOOT!

Congratulations! Hang in there through the newbie jitters, take lots of deep breaths, cut down on the caffeine ( ), and you’ll do fine.

The thread title brought a big smile to my face Guin. Goodonya.

Congratulations. Don’t be nervous, you’ll do fine.

So when you’re going for a data entry job, can you cite being a prolific poster on the SDMB as relevant experience?

Woohoo! Wishing you joy and luck in your new career.

Congrats, Guin! I’m always nervous as hell when I’m out of a job because lord knows where my next one’s going to be. Then when I get a job I’m even more nervous because I’m in a new envirionment, often new duties that are in whole or part unfamiliar to me, new people, new responsibilities – makes me a nervous wreck for the first few weeks as I try and settle in and learn things and get to a point where I can be trusted to know at least a little of what I’m doing.

My current job was a pretty big thing to tackle – a hell of a lot to learn (it involves gas engines and every fiddly little part therein) and I’m still learning and will probably continue to be learning for years yet. But it took me several months before I felt proficient enough to handle things without having to ask my supervisor a billion questions every five minutes.

Data entry is pretty easy though. Aside from settling into the new environment and perhaps learning the system they use, I’m sure you’d be proficient with it in a matter of days, maybe a week or two. It’s an easy paycheque if you don’t mind repetative stuff.

Congratulations – and good luck!

Way cool Guin, best of luck.

Jim

Whoo-HOO! Congratulations, Guin, and good luck to you.

Yeah, someone will have to take over my position as Doper with Most Time on His/Her Hands, obviously.

Hey-pretty soon I’ll have enought money to get my hump removed! And may even a set of dem there teeth what I seed in da Sears catalog!

Seriously, it sounds pretty good. My only regret is that I’m going to have to change my volunteer position over at the hospital-and I really do like working in the G.I. lab.

Best of luck.

I started life as a temp. Not a bad way to go. My advice, be flexible and non critical - i.e. don’t say “why are you doing it this way, its stupid.” And say “what time would you like me to go to lunch” instead of “I take my lunch at 12:00.”

Get a reputation as a flexible hard worker and temp life can be a not bad spot.

Congrats Guin and good luck!

::: Does happy dance:::
Congrats

Just remember: everyone you work with is an idiot. Smile and pretend to like them.

Warmest congratulations! Take it one day, one hour, or one minute at a time. Whatever works.

Regards,
Shodan

Massive congratulations and happy dances! I’m so glad!

That is terrific…have fun and don’t worry about being nervous…it will get better in a few days! Starting something new is always the hardest part.
