Hell freeze over-or Guin gets a job

Goddammit!

Apparently, they didn’t need me after all-the girl who was going to leave decided to stay. What the fuck?

Hazards of temping. Shit!

Awww, MAN!!! That really bites the big one.

I’m semi-retired/self-employed, but I always find that when I’m doing the transition from indolence (my natural state) to working a new contract on somebody else’s schedule that the exhaustion can be a bit overwhelming for the first few days. The upside is that sleep becomes a blessed relief, and I wake up refreshed. If you would accept a tip from a complete stranger, drink nothing more stimulating than water for a while and let your body adjust. After that you’ll be able to mainline coffee with the best of them.

Laidback and jeans okay? Sounds like a great place to take the plunge, what with much less stress (beyond what anyone would feel making such a big change) than in a more uptight atmosphere. Here’s hoping it works out from temp to permanent!

I bet inside of a month you won’t even notice what the building smells like.

Bummer. But there’s always another assignment. They’ll send you out in no time.

Congratulations! followed by Bummer!

You’ll get another job pronto. Keep your chin up.

Oh, crap, I didn’t see your post about losing the job! What a major bummer!

Hopefully the next one will be at least as good. And if it isn’t, heck, it’s temp so you’ll be on to another.

I’m probably just naive here, but this will be your putative employer offering you a job and then reneging on it? No fault on your part? Surely you’ll be able to collect the wages due for your notice period? Or is it common for employers in your state to just fuck about with people?

It’s a temp job, which means technically, I’m not an employee of this place. It happens quite frequently-people just don’t work out.

And yeah, I’ll be paid, because I’m not on THEIR payroll, but that of the employment agency.

Oh well, my mother told me she saw a Help Wanted in the local penny saver for the daycare center down the street. It’s only part time, but it sounds like a good idea-I love little kids, and I wouldn’t have to worry about transportation-it’s not even a five minute walk.

And I can probably hang on to my volunteer position as well. That I’m glad about, at least.

You’ve just got to do whatever you are comfortable with. Go and look after the bairns, and do your volunteer stuff too.

The temp agency shouldn’t have any trouble getting you another position. Data-entry is always needed.

I did temp agency office work for a couple of years out of college. I have tons of advice, but I don’t think that’s what this thread is for.
