Hell o' Weenies (October Mini-Rants)

I take your point, but please note my use of the word “them.” Remind the entire congregation of the fact that it’s a sin to vote for a Republican. From the impression I’ve gained based on your discussion of them in the past, they really need to be reminded, early and often.

In fact, it’s probably not too soon to start now. And make it clear that it doesn’t only apply to the Presidency.

Okay kids, let’s go!

This was my third week at this church. I don’t know what their politics are.

I have to get up at 5:30am tomorrow. :sob:

And my tummy hurts really bad right now.

LOL. What?

When one of my sisters bought her first house, she left a box of things from her apartment in my parents basement. One day I walked into the kitchen and saw my mom mixing a pitcher of iced tea from powder with a strange utensil.

“What’s… what’s that Mom?”
“It’s a stirring utensil I pulled from a box in the basement…”
“No, Mom, it isn’t. That’s a scoop for a litter box! Throw that thing Right Out!!!”

( To this day, I have never taken another sip of Iced Tea. Ever. )

That’s crazy! I don’t blame you.

My 90-year-old father died this morning. I’m going to be OK, and as far as I’m concerned, that man ceased to exist on Thursday morning, when he had a massive stroke. His prognosis was zero and he was admitted on comfort care and later hospice. I hadn’t seen my parents since before COVID, so I drove in and he did recognize me, which felt good.

I know you will be okay, but condolences and hugs just the same.

Thanks. I wanted to come home on Saturday, so I did, and I went to my volunteer job today and my mother kept a hair appointment after the hospice personnel reassured her that no, that’s not disrespectful. She’s going to meet with the funeral home tomorrow to fill out all the paperwork; we’re going to do a direct cremation and no funeral.

I am so very sorry for your loss…

Had to break down and get a new PC laptop (an HP, as was my old one and the 2 newer ones I use at work). How the fuck did they manage to make it so different from any PC I’ve ever used that I can’t set it up to look like anything I’ve ever owned?

Don’t you miss the crunchy goodness?

Ha, well put.

I just had the opposite experience. Finally replaced a MacBook that I bought cheap (and very used) a decade ago. Found a good 3-figure price on a used-but-current-model (M’Book Air, M2 chip).

Hadn’t transferred everything to another computer in forever… last time I’d used the antique FireWire Target Disk Mode, with cables and about twenty hours of clicking and whirring.

Well, I googled and … what the…? I can just push a button and move everything over Wi-Fi? Wow. A few hours later, Apple’s “Migration Assistant” had moved everything and put it all where it should be. I’d planned in a day or two of fixing passwords etc, but there was no need to update anything…

[/un-rant]

eta: It’s kind of a letdown: Brand new laptop and it acts just like my old one. Zero drama, zero surprises… and I like surprises!

Oh, one nice thing: it’s the first computer that my Bluetooth headphones automatically connect to.

Yeah, I’m just not ready to commit to turning my life over to Apple and paying the premium for it, but it sure has its advantages.

I just ordered another hundred checks. My current work contract is converting the client’s data centers, hundreds of sites, terabytes of data and thousands of accounts to cloud services, so I about as anti-ludite as you can get. I still write checks to local service businesses, HVAC annual maintenance and such, because they’re locally owned companies. Just to save them the 3% or whatever CC processing fees apply to using cards.

This evening, after I rolled my trash and recycle carts to the curb two-handed, as is my wont, I slipped while maneuvering them into place and landed hard. Luckily, I came down on my right hip, which is the most padded place on my body. Even more luckily, even though I haven’t been taking my calcium or getting regular weight-bearing exercise, I don’t seem to have broken anything. I do have some bruising down one forearm and I can tell that I’m going to be really sore in the morning (and for several days after, probably). I am now going to have to take them to the curb one at a time, like a chump, so I don’t hurt myself again.

What’s worse is that I can’t even really blame my awful physical condition on age; once the bruises heal, I’ll need to force myself to get to a gym again. Probably one at a senior center.

we have 3 or 4 of those via QVC and can attest they work wonderfully …halo makes a nice flashlight too

lol except for the engines and didn’t get to a lake much … this was Friday nights for a few years oh and drank vodka SoCo or schnapps …

That’s all yours. ( Enjoy! )

Yikes! If my favorite spatula went missing I’d be freaking out. It’s silicone and gets used at least once a day when I make the dogs their morning eggs. I wash, dry, and put it away immediately after each use. (Kizzy went through a stage where she’d chew certain materials and plastic/silicone was her favorite)

If my favorite silicone spatula went missing it might perturb me but it wouldn’t inconvenience me, I’d just break out one of the other 3 identical ones.

When I find something I really like, whether it’s a utensil or a piece of clothing, I always buy spares.

My favorite spatula was initially one in a 3 pack. Kizzy destroyed two of them, taking them off the counter or from the drain rack. Down to one, I became obsessed. My gf will not use my favorite spatula because she fears what would happen if it got destroyed.
