Man, this takes me back to when our puppy, at a similar age, grabbed a pack of cigarettes off a table in the back yard and we didn’t notice until we found part of the mangled package. I still remember how it felt waiting to be sure he wasn’t going to have any lasting ill effects. He survived unscathed to live another 13 years. I’m glad your little guy seems to be fine as well!
It’s simply terrifying when you realize what they’ve done. I’d have been so frightened in your situation, too. Everything is dangerous to them if they’re inclined to eat whatever they can get their faces on. Ollie is such a one. And he is so fast!!
When I take him walking outside, I usually put a soft mesh muzzle on him to prevent him from eating deadly mushrooms. Yesterday, I had him on a lead over to the workshop, but we were on gravel and concrete so I didn’t think the muzzle was needed. Should have left him in his crate.
I’m so glad your little feller recovered and went on to enjoy a full, undamaged life!
We just got my kid’s school photo. Not only is he not smiling, he looks a little pissed off. Which, for all I know, maybe he was.
He can be pretty intense, so I can’t argue this is not my kid. It’s just that when he flashes that smile, the whole room lights up.
I have to thank all of you for the painful cervix conversation upthread. You reminded me to put a reminder in my phone to take an ibuprofen before I get my pap smear next month.
Emetic–couldn’t find the word.
Two words: Retake Day!
Hugs to you and Ollie, who doesn’t understand why all these things are being done to him. Did they also give him a shot of vitamin K?
Poison Control gets more calls about animals than they do for people.
The library I volunteer at is having a book sale on Saturday, and the flyers say Saturday the 22nd, when this year, that day falls on the 21st! A customer pointed that out, too.
(headdesk; however, my own personal detail-oriented brain ganglion has been a bit distracted over the past week and a half.)
Is that still a thing? I swear I’m reliving my childhood school days now that I have a kid in school. Did we always have this much time off? I don’t remember any Winter Break.
So scary. Crossed fingers.
Don’t blame yourself. Ollie will grow up. And you’ll fondly remember the early puppy days. He’s a corker.
Retake Day is 100% a thing! Some of the kids will have been absent, and it’s really hard to sell photos of a scowling kid to parents who are planning to send them to relatives. The original may well show up on his ID and in the yearbook, but the school should be able to tell you about that when they give you the retake date.
Schools have always had Winter Break, but it was called Christmas Break back in the day. I do think there’s a trend towards districts starting earlier and ending later and making up for it by sprinkling extra holidays throughout the year. I think of it as a sneaky way for them to ease parents into year-round schooling.
Things like this were my nightmares. I’ll be thinking good thoughts for Ollie.
This was our Luc. My sister and I said we’re walking around like bent over crones, because we had to watch him like a hawk. He’d eat anything. Once, my sister had to pull a dead rotten bird out of his mouth.
We didn’t have Retake Day back in my time. One of my fellow kindergartners had her picture showing her with full-on tantrum face with an arm holding her in the shot.
Phew! I feel ya.
They’re more accommodating to non-Christian holidays, too. I heard recently that schools in Des Moines, for example, closed for the recent Rosh Hashanah observance.
I also remember one picture day when I was in grade school, and it was raining heavily at the beginning of the school day, and some of the kids were still wet when the pictures were taken. We didn’t do retakes.
Yeah, but that’s hilarious. I bet her parents did enjoy showing it to her future boyfriends.
How terrible for the family. However, I hope they have the ability to see why she might have done this. If I wasn’t going to get better, I would certainly consider it. It sounds terrible to you, but I really think that her condition was a strong motivator. It sucks, but did the alternative for her suck any less? I’m still sorry, @slalexan.
Yeah, it was hilarious right away!
My high school took Rosh Hashanah off back in the 60s. But my high school was about 60% Jewish at the time. Easier to just make it a day off for everybody. So many of my friends were so Reform that it was usually a beach day for us.
(discourse)
The whole thing, or just one month’s worth?
My baby brother never took a school picture without black eye, stitches or some bruise on his face. Always managed to do it right before picture day.
The Lil’wrekker snuck a tiara she had to school in 2nd grade and plopped it on her head, crookedly, for the picture.
It’s my favorite school picture of her.
A dog story: my nephews came from out of town to visit. Apparently, somebody left their edibles out. My dog found them and consumed about three cookies. We didnt know that when we found him, terrified of everyone and shaking like a leaf. I didnt think he was sick, though.
Later on we found the almost empty package in the backyard, and my dog was coming down and acting more normal. I was just so pissed at Dave for being so irresponsible! Tore him a new one…
