Hell o' Weenies (October Mini-Rants)

I just spent 130K on a pleasure trip for my son.

OK, notice I didn’t put a dollar sign in front of it. 130K airline reward points, not dollars, which is still a lot of spending value. For a trip to Tokyo for a week. 14-hour flight. He loves authentic sushi so I assume this is what it’s all about!

OK. Have to spend 75k. Yes $75,000 on a new septic system. It should be finished in the next couple of weeks.

Its really hard to drop that kind of dime on something you are just going to drop a deuce into.

So, the adult boy child, who lives across the country from us, was recently let go from his job. Very sucky, to be sure. He gives every indication of going great guns on finding a new one, yah for him! In the meantime, he may need a little help on living expenses. $$$

However, he now reports that he is experiencing medical issues. Talking to his uncle the doctor it sounds like something in the nature of ulcerative colitis. So, mom decided to fly out to see about helping him out. $$$

Since he is not employed, he does not have medical insurance for treatment. So the options are paying out of pocket (ours $$$), or signing up for COBRA and paying for that (again, us $$$).

So, it appears that money happiness is, once again, delayed.

After a two year probate wait I finally got a small 5 figure inheritance, thanks Pops!

Immediately I used it to pay down debt. Oh how I wish I could used it on house improvements. Still $$$ saved going forward.

Yipes! Why so much? What kind of system is it?

We have a traditional septic system with holding tank and leach field. And it’s probably going to have to be replaced within ten years.

Last week ARS came by for my semiannual HVAC inspection. While the system itself didn’t need any work, the attached dehumidifier needed to be completely replaced at a cost of just over $5000.00. And of course it was no longer under warranty. Oh, and that price was after my senior citizen and sevice contract discounts.

At least I’ll get a pile of cashback bonus points on my credit card.

Could not replace the existing one. New regulations. New system must be 200 feet from our well. Replacing the old system where it is… can’t happen. It’s only 100 feet from our well.

So the new field is uphill from the tank. Needs a lifting station. That 75k does not include the electrical work that is going to have to be done. But that won’t be too bad.

As long as we are doing this, we are putting in a new tank. Larger to support more people. Will be able to do 8. Right now it’s only 3 I think. But will increase the value of the house.

So far have 12 tandem truck loads of sand and gravel trucked in. Ten of them have been moved to the leech field. All having to be carried on a skid steer. Bucket, by bucket on the side of a mountain.

Got a large trac-hoe on site (CAT 313), a trac-skid-steer loader and we will need a mini trac-hoe.

I very much doubt Crafter_Man that your job will be nearly as involved as this… mini disaster.

Nah, I honestly think that experiencing new places and cultures is good for the mind and good for the soul.

I merged the two threads together.

Corporations are no longer satisfied with sending my phone push notifications. More and more apps are putting permanent notifications I can’t swipe away into my notifications list. Right now Kindle has one stuck in the middle of downloading something I probably didn’t ask for. So I have to choose between receiving no notifications at all (not really my preference) or having this wall of permanent notifications stuck in my queue. Hate it.

He should find out if he’s eligible for the Medicaid expansion in his state. Never hurts to ask.

Where are the Weenies? I was promised Weenies.

That’s one hollow weenie.

:+1: :+1: :+1:

Helluva low ground clearance on some of those pups, and when their spines are so long seems like a cruel hoax.

It’s why they’re so adverse to going out in the rain or snow to do their business.

Here you go.

Not as cute as:

Are there edible googly-eyes?

I wrap maple sausages in biscuit dough. Cute, but they just don’t look sentient enough…

Or make your own, anything white and edible with a drop of food coloring in the middle. Cream cheese would work on a hotdog since you probably want to avoid something sweet.

Cute, maybe, but Dachshunds are known to sometimes resort to cannibalism.
