Hell's Kitchen Fall 2010 Thread (no spoilers) [edited title ]

God damn it, Sabrina’s still there! I hate her even more now.

Although to be fair, she cleans up REALLY nicely, I hardly even recognize her out of her chef’s clothes!

I suspect he was playing it up for the camera and had little to no actual intent or desire to win. During his final interview outside the building he seemed very calm and rational and said he enjoyed his time there and that it was fun all in a tone of voice far different than anything I recognized.

Yeah, this episode only strengthened my suspicion that both Raj and Sabrina are either deliberate plants by the show’s producers or only there for the TV self-promotion (or probably a bit of both). Their behavior and mannerisms and are way too calculated-goofy to be believable. I’m not fully buying the “aw, shucks!” routine from the Magic Marker eyebrows chick, either.

There’ve been some suspicious characters in past seasons, but never so blatant as in this one. On a sauté le requin.

I said to my wife, “If Raj isn’t faking, he’s extremely mentally ill.” That wasn’t just a quirk character, that was schizophrenia.

I know that these “reality shows” are heavily edited and produced, but the plants are taking it too far. I call… dare I say it? SHENANIGANS!

It was 2 eps a week most of last season, until Masterchef started, then they went to one a week until they ended and Masterchef expanded to two hours.

While the oddities may not be “plants”, they are most certainly selected only for their WTF value - which gives the same result…

I caught a moment or two of last night’s show, and I just wanted to mention that Eyebrows Girl sounds a whole lot like Bart Simpson.

Yeah, or maybe a Rugrat.

I just want to slap the glasses off Sabrina’s face. I hate it when people have to tilt their head back to look down their nose through their glasses because they don’t fit their face. Plus she could use a good slap.*

Kidding- I don’t actually endorse this.*

**Unless the person really deserves it.

Sabrina’s a bit of a conundrum for me. She is very very horrible, but she hasn’t really made any lasting mistakes during service. There are still people who can’t cook when they know everything’s on the line. Her mistakes seem to be limited.
Now do I think she’ll win? No way. There are better candidates there who’re more consistent. Vinny, Rob, and Russell are impressing at this stage.

Watched this last night, and I’m going to quote

Two people last night on the scallops were absolutely horrible. I could maybe see Boris’ screwups as cracking under pressure at his stations and just not being able to handle the pace, but pan frying a scallop is food 101. The one girl wasted something like 7 pounds of scallops, all of which seemed to be completely raw. Then she’s shocked that they’re still raw. It’s like not being able to cook a steak. I would imagine that as a chef there’s a certain amount of basic stuff you’re expected to have down by heart, how to cook specific meats, how to make certain sauces, etc. How the hell can one have the slightest amount of credibility as a chef, let alone compete for a 250,000 a year job, and you waste 7 pounds of scallops? :dubious: Either Gordon is sabotaging the kitchens (which I suppose is possible) or some of these people are specifically chosen for NOT having basic cooking skills.

I’m still shocked that there was a competition where it didn’t come down to the final head to head to determine a winner. Red team swept the whole thing? WAH? Isn’t this supposed to be rigged to draw out tension during commercial breaks? Someone dropped the ball there, lol!

It’s back, after nearly a month. Next week it goes to 1 hr a week to make room for Human Target at 8pm.

Anyone still watching (besides me, that is). Was happy with the winner last night. However, we missed most of it, due to a mistake with the DVR. I’m certain we didn’t miss much - did their individual challenge come down to the last judge, I wonder? Not.

This season’s crop of chefs seemed really weak. Or maybe it was just that most of them were unlikeable. I dunno. Not sure I have enough interest to keep watching - it’s too formulaic.

Of course it came down to 2-2 with the final judge to solve it.

I enjoyed the fake out: Ramsey gave the contestants parachutes and told them they had to leap off whatever building it was where the final cooking challenge was. Both completely believed him, but Russell was all “I just shit my pants” (truly, he said that) while Nona was marching to the edge of the building fully ready to take the leap when Ramsey laughed and called her back.

Has any other losing finalist ever been given such an unflattering coda? I refer to Russell’s final rants on how all his team conspired to make him lose and his threats to blackball them from any restaurant in whatever state he works in. (Oh really? Wielding your massive influence as a loser on a reality show?)

Hmm. Maybe all the other losers were less bitter and bitchy. Or maybe they felt the need to ‘justify’ a bit more why Russell lost. Because clearly he lost on personality/interpersonal skills rather than cooking per se.

As I said to hubby, Russell seemed to be mimicking Ramsey’s uber-confrontational style with his crew, apparently not realizing that there is a difference between playing it up to make a tv show entertaining and actually, you know, leading/training/bonding with a crew. All of Nona’s crew seemed to be doing their best for her, and genuinely wanting her to win. At least one of Russell’s crew would have happily disemboweled him by the end of service.

If you act like that when you’re geniuinely a head chef, well, I imagine every single person on your staff will be flipping you the bird the second they find another job.

Yeah, at the end of the previous episode I wasn’t too pleased with Nona (don’t keep pulling out the ‘doing this for my family’ thing like no one else has one), but I quickly preferred her over Russell-the-Jerk as this episode started rolling. Plus I think she did a better job of really showing the audience what her family meant to her.

Russell either was a total prick throughout his closing statement, or they really gave him the worst Loser Edit ever. Talk about catty.

No doubt - I was kind of shocked by that. He was a douche throughout, but I thought he’d be a little more gracious at the end. We were totally in Nona’s corner, but when he lipped off it only sealed it.

SpouseO said that he thought it likely Ramsay saw the same thing - if he did, Russell never had a chance.

I’m the furthest thing from a tv snob that I know. I mean, I watch 2 and a Half Men and enjoy it, for chrissake. But this season of Hells Kitchen was nigh unwatchable. I watched it anyway, first to see the Sabrina kick-off meltdown (which took TOO long, by the way) and then I kept watching because hell, we were already into the black jackets by the time Sabrina got her comeuppance.

Last night we fired up the DVR and my boyfriend and I both let out a sigh of “Oh my god, we have to sit through a whole finale episode of this crap?” My boyfriend finally spoke up and said, “Do you wanna just fast forward and see who wins?” “God, yes!” and so that’s what we did.

What a lame crop of donkeys this bunch was.

I missed it, and the last few episodes. I would have kept watching had they not taken it off the air for a month, hard for me to muster up the interest to figure out what happened last time
