OOPS - Ja’Nel will not be a chef at Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill after all. Here’s a Facebook post from ITV Studios:
TMZ is reporting that the “unforeseen personal circumstances” was a drug test (that all Caesar’s Palace group employees must take) that came back positive for cocaine.
Note that Ja’Nel does get to keep the $250,000 “salary”, and runner-up Mary Poehnelt will not receive the Vegas job in Ja’Nel’s place.
As reality show stunners go, this is right up there with Rick Rockwell hiding his history of domestic abuse and that couple on Temptation island who lied about not having children.
I never bought Mary as a leader of a high-end kitchen, so I’m not the least bit surprised or upset that she isn’t getting the job. What I really want to know is how Ja’nel can so colossally screw up and now essentially get paid a huge amount of money to do nothing. Unless there’s some legal finagling I’m unaware of, I think the show just set an extremely ugly precedent, and given all the royal slackers and screwups it attracts every season, you have to think that someone in the future is going to exploit it.
Day-umm…imagine what Jon must be thinking right now.
