Anybody know where I can find the version of Help! with the pseudo-James Bond intro? Either on cd or mp3. It was on the vinyl version of “1962-1966” (the red greatest hits double album), but it’s not on the cd.
If Capitol follows up the recently released box set of the first four American albums with a second volume–as the “Vol. 1” in the title of the current set implies they will–the U.S. version of the Help album should be included, James Bond intro and all.
When the album was originally released, the British and US versions were very different. The British version had 14 songs while the US version had 7 songs and was padded out with incidental music from the film. It also had the version of the song Help with the James Bond intro.
On all the albums before Sgt Pepper’s, the US version had fewer songs so that they could stretch the songs out to more albums and make more money. :rolleyes:
Several years ago when they re-issued all the CDs in the US, they used the original British version. So what you’ll want to find is the earlier US CD, with seven Beatles tracks on it.
Sorry, such an animal does not exist. Until they make a CD with this version, the OP will have to find the American or Canadian LP.
That’s odd. I was pretty sure that they had released the British versions on CD after the US versions had been around for several years. It looks like you are correct, however.
Isn’t that funny? I had totally forgotten about the ‘James Bond Intro’ until I read the OP. Until I got the CDs, 62-66 and 67-70 on vinyl were pretty much all I had of the Beatles. I even had the red vinyl and blue vinyl versions of them, first pressings.
So, does anyone have those collections on CD? Are they not the same as the vinyl?

The Beach Boys have a similar thingie with Help Me Rhonda. The LP version has a catchy music intro to it as well. However, all anyone plays is the 45 version.

Back when the records came out, there were pressing variations. UK and the Commonwealth countries got a version of 1962-1966 without the “James Bond intro”, on US LPs it was included. When EMI and Apple put out the CDs, they were all the British versions of the albums, so the CD of 1962-1966 doesn’t have that piece on it.
I’ve got the colored vinyl versions, too!

The cd’s are identical to the albums EXCEPT for the version of Help!
I just borrowed them from a friend of mine. They are the only Beatles cd’s I don’t own. I figured I didn’t need them since I had all of the songs. But those were the albums that introduced me to the beatles when I was a kid. When I listen to the regular (british version) cd’s, I still often expect the next song to be what it is on the red and blue albums.
The Blue Album in particular is good in that provides “clean” versions of tracks like Back in the USSR and Day in the Life that fade in or out of other songs on their original albums.
