Okay, here’s my situation. I’m 24 and I’m bored to death with my job. I’m a c++ programmer for a large corporation. I can’t stand sitting in front of a computer and writing code. Especially when it isn’t challenging. I’m always finishing my tasks long before the boss estimates I should finish. So, I’m always having to ask for more work. I’ve thought about changing to another company but I would have the same problem - sitting in front of a computer and writing code.
I have a BS in Computer Engineering. I’m going to night school to get an MBA. Why? I don’t know. People told me that this would help me get away from programming. The only thing is that I would still be stuck inside and probably have to work longer hours. What would be my ideal job? - A construction worker. Why don’t I do that? From what I have heard the work isn’t steady especially in the winter. Also, it isn’t something that I would likely be able to do until retirement. I’d probably throw out my back or something when I was 40 and have to retire prematurely. Plus when I was 18 I was forced into college and the kicker is that I had to put myself through college. Yeah, I paid for 100% of it and I hated going. How’s that for punishment.
I love being outdoors and I’m very physically fit. I’ve spent time designing and building decks and garages. I can do electrical wiring, plumbing, concrete work and any kind of yard work. I enjoy this type of work a hell of a lot more than the BS I’m doing right now.
I’ve thought about starting my own company but I don’t know what I could make this company do. I’ve done some computer upgrades and a bitchen network installation for the company my uncle works for. I thought about this but I don’t have the money to quit and try doing that full time. I also don’t have the time to try it part time.
I hate to sound cocky but I think my problem is that I’m good at so many different things. Ah… What to do…
