OK, this is a little weird, so forgive me, but it is a little bit haunting.
I just woke up from one of the most vivid dreams of my life. In my dream, I was watching some music video show/competition where they presented three acts and the viewers called in to choose their favorite. The first song was “Why Can’t I” by Liz Phair. The second was a song called something like “When Rachael Smiles” by a female singer and the video was really disturbing. It starts when a woman in tears leaves her infant laying on a road next to a river. The baby rolls over until it is partially submerged in the water, and the rest of the video shows the baby almost, but never quite, going under the water. Is this a real song/video or is it all from my mind?
Two quick points… 1) I did a cursory search on the net, but I’m not sure I got the name of the song right, so it wasn’t helpful and 2) I know what my post count says, but I’ve actually been a member before, I just lost my log in information and have moved twice since then, changing e-mail accounts as I changed jobs.
So, any help? And do any of you have experiences like this?
Can’t help you with #1, but as for #2 if you know your old user name or e-mail address that was attached to the account, I’d bet a mod or admin can dig up the old info. I was surprised that after not posting or even loggin in for about two years at one point that they still had all my info.
I compose songs in my dreams all the time, but can rarely remember them when I wake up. Or if I do remember some of the music, I can never write it down because I don’t know how. It’s really frustrating. I remember the first time I realized I was doing this. I’d had a dream that I was at some outdoor festival and the band was playing a song I really liked. When I woke up, I still remembered some of the lyrics, so I Googled them, thinking that it must be a song I’d heard somewhere and stashed away in my subconscious, but my search turned up nothing.
As for your search, the only thing I can suggest (and that you’ve probably already considered) is that there are several different ways to spell “Rachael”. If you can try to remember some of the lyrics, that might help, too. But it’s entirely possible that you made the song up in your dream.
Do you literally not know how to write music? Or is it just very difficult for you? If the former, I would recommend finding some “how to play piano” (or some other instrument) books. Be careful, because the right note, with the wrong chord, (or no chord) can possibly sound like the wrong note. If the latter, get a tape recorder and sing it, then you can go over and over it, without having to worry about forgetting it.
