From 1970s or 1980s I had a book of a collection of short stories in science fiction.
One of my favorites was a story in which colonists were mysteriously dying on a planet so a team was sent to investigate. It turns out that there is some kind of gas which makes your childhood fears come to life. In the end the team saves themselves by hiding under the covers, just like any kid believes that hiding under the covers saves you from monsters.
Sound familiar to anyone?
Possibly in same collection:
An astronaut crashes on a world where all enimals are blind. theyuse telepathy to project themselves into surroundings. Predators come after him and he in the end saves himself by invisioning himself as fire.
Another where an astronaut crashes on an asteroid and is paralyzed. A small atmosphere is there, plus a sentient ife for that are small insects. They grow food for him and he teaches them some technology.
I have searched google etc for years, any help appreciated. If anyone knows of a database of stories that would help too.
The second story is also by Robert Sheckley . I can’t remember the name however. It had the word "thought " in its title, I think . Possibly “The Odor of Thought.”
Sheckley did write a story called “The Odour of Thought” which is collected with “Ghosts V.” in a collection called “The People Trap” Publication: The People Trap
