Best wishes Quasimodem. I sincerely hope that things get better.
Distance sucks when it comes to times like this. I’ll keep an eye on your updates, Quasi – right now I’m watching the pence, but if I can send something later, I will. You’re a good friend and a champion bloke. All I’m good for right now is a reminder that you are loved and warmly thought of in this corner of the world. Best wishes to you and yours.
Quasi, I’ve just sent a small contribution, in hopes of generating a bit of cross-country good karma. Do all you can to help your situation, but do also take comfort and find some peace in the knowledge that friends and near-strangers of the Dope do care about you.
Couldn’t have said it better myself! In fact, I couldn’t have said it as well!
Let me add that I, too, think you are awesome for making a contribution on behalf of those Dopers who wish they could but are not in a position to do so right now.
Quasi, I’m a pretty strong believer in realistic karma. Not that I try to do good works in the hopes that if/when I have need, someone will do good for me, but rather in the sense that, if we all do what we can, when we can, we will all have what we need when we need it.
I know that some years ago, my husband and I were in a very tight place financially, and I don’t know how we would have gotten through those couple of tight years without so many wonderful, kind, generous people reaching out to us. Even before that, I tried to do good whenever I could, but since then, I’ve redoubled my efforts, just trying to “pay it forward”, so to speak.
The government does what it can, but what’s happening right here, right now, this is how real, wide-reaching good gets done, by a lot of people doing a little bit, voluntarily and happily!
Chipping in a couple bucks here. Not much, but everything’s tight everywhere. Stay safe.
Norinew, I am so stealing this, if not for a signature line here, but for a summation of my own philosphy.
Quasi, big fat email coming your way soon. In the mean time, thoughts prayers and good vibations heading south from Canada. Im not sure if they fly in “V” formation like the geese, but flying they are.
ZipperJJ, you said it! I know at some point, my family will be back on track.
Quasimodem, take whatever is offered freely, we all want you to be happy and healthy.
Yeah, what he said (it’s not healthy to disagree with the Don!).
When/if you can, pay it forward. Anyone who contributes, is being amply repaid in karma-currency.
One suggestion: if the IRS is on your case, anything you draw down from Paypal should be gotten out of the bank immediately, lest it get caught in an IRS account attachment.
Anyone know if Diosa Bellissima is still on the boards? I seem to recall she worked for a company that dealt with people in trouble with the IRS; she might have some good suggestions.
Dear Kids,
I just finished compiling a list of donors, and I will send each of you a private message in thanks.
Some of you wished to remain anonymous, and some gave their real name but not their SDMB nickname. For those who gave only real names, do I have your permission to send you an e-mail?
Dee and I would like you all to know how grateful we are and that this morning, instead of just giving a couple of bucks to our church, we were able to give a little more. Part of our tithes go to our mission in Africa, so y’all didn’t only help us,
you helped clothe and educate some folks not as fortunate as we are.
Again, we send our love and sincere thanks for your love and generosity!
Bill and Dee
Wow. I’ve been here for seven years, and don’t believe I’ve ever been quoted in a sig line before. . .
Broomstick, picunurse, Mona Lisa Simpson Mama Zappa and Johnny L.A.: Point taken, thank you all.
Ice Wolf: Lisa, you are a very dear friend of mine, and that friendship (across the miles) has sustained me during this very tough time. I thank you for your good wishes and hopes for better days for me, and please do not be concerned about having to “watch the pence”. You just take care of “Icy” and continue your wonderful work of historical research of your beloved New Zealand, “Timespanner”;)!
Hopiing that you and I will meet one day!
Your friend
Bill
Quasi, I’ve never posted in any of your threads, but I read them regularly. I’m not able to do anything practical at the moment, but you have all my good thoughts & prayers. Follow the good advice you’re getting in the thread & stay dry.
Not this Doper (regarding the wallet, that is). But I just got a promotion at work. I’ll try to send a few bucks.
Your obvious thanks in the thread is more than enough, but if you insist, email is more than okay (from Shannon, but in my rush I forgot to put my user ID in the paypal box).
In days of old, before Medicaid and Social Security, the Masons, the Odd Fellows, the Elks, (and before them, the guilds, I suppose) had very practical reasons for existence. To help fellows through the rough times, and share company in the good.
We are a community here, possibly a new sort of one, possibly an old sort of one. We do what we can, because we can.
We are : The Cecil Guild
That sounds to me like a great “Splinter-Guild” name off Burning Dog Legion, Bos’

I hope when I am old and dottery and can only make love for half an hour at a time people will assist me.
As in “stand on either side of you and move you up and down”?;)
Quasi
… well. more than just kinda:), but I think I may have forgotten, to thank PandaBear and BobKitty for all that great research y’all did.
Gonna put it to good use starting today!
Thanks
Quasi
PS: Still working on the"thanks-pm’s". It’s taking me a little while because they aren’t generic. So if’n you haven’t got one yet, that’s why!:)
