Help! How do I get rid of this fake tan?

Hmmm … guess I could always try Tipex …

Trust me, I will be drinking heavily. We have a tendency to raid pubs like a horde of lesbian vikings and leave behind only empty beer barrels and shell-shocked staff. So that’s a point, if I get there late enough, everyone else will be too drunk to notice anyway …

I was in the sun again today, unavoidably, and I hope that might help the colouration become more natural at least.

What a palaver over fake tan! :frowning:

Or, you could do nothing, and make the fake tan thing a big self depreciating joke. Laugh it up at your own expence!

We have all done something silly to ourselves at one time or another. I am sure your friends and even ex-es would understand.

Or you could do nothing, and when people look at you funny or ask why you are orange, demand that there is nothing wrong, and claim that they are nuts…

Use it as an opportunity to mess with heads!

As I see it you have a few choices.

  1. Go to the suntan bed and try to even up.

  2. Reapply another brand of self tanner. I’ve heard Lancome products are the best. This site has some really great tips and products to reccomend.

  3. Do nothing and flaunt your new, super trendy, super chic, Tiger Tan® to all your friends. What? They haven’t heard it’s only the hottest trend in St Tropez? Peasants!

I have used these products before with similar results. The key is to know that they soak into drier skin more readily. The time to exfoliate like crazy is before you put the stuff on. I usually do this the day before using my favorite sloughing connoction as follows.

About a cup of kosher salt, couple of tablespoons olive oil and a few tablespoons of honey to help it hold together then add a dash of vanilla or scented oil for a nice scent. Mix this well then take a lemon cut in half squeeze the juice in and use the lemon to rub the stuff all over concentrating on the dry spots, knees, elbows, feet. Enlist help if needed to do your back. Do not put this on your face or use much pressure. The salt is coarse enough. I do this outside usually cause it is messy. On the beach is even better.

This works real well for skin that is peeling from a light sunburn. You know where you get out of the shower and rub with a towel and the skin pills up. It goes without saying to take it easy if the burn is deep or the skin is tender. I use this on my feet too in the winter.

When done, shower and apply a good lotion all over. The next day reapply lotion just before applying the self tanner (or just apply a strip of each side by side and rub well). Either wear gloves to apply or rub silicone based hair shine stuff on your palms before applying tanner (avon makes silicone glove lotion). Afterwards, scrub your hands throughly with a brush. Stay naked for at least an hour minimum. Don’t lie down or put any clothes on. I usually do my nails while I’m waiting. If you notice a big change in color of your hands and wrists you can apply a half lotion/half tanner mixture the next day on just the tops of your hands or on any slightly uneven spots. Don’t even try to do the fingers, it never looks right.

First post!

I can offer no cure and darned little comfort. My youngest son, 19, has become a body building fanatic and several weeks ago was in his first competition. He used some fake tan goop and like you, he was orange. It took two weeks, numerous showers, and much scrubbing for him to get it all off. I think you are simply stuck with it for a while.

I’m afraid the one and only time I tried Lancome - this was some years ago, mind - I looked like I’d steeped in carrot juice.

For the future: I understand that in many places, salons will apply the fake tan for you so you get a much more natural, even effect. Our limbs just aren’t jointed to make it right all by ourselves, I think…

Lancome has vastly increased the quality of its product in recent years. This happened to me, too, years ago.
