help i.d. a movie, please?

I rented “Orange County” from Netflix and was just sitting down to watch it a couple of hours ago when a friend called. I told him I was just about to watch the movie and he said, “Oh, isn’t that the one where the kid wants to get into college, so his brother makes a video to send to the college to help him out?” I didn’t know, of course, since I hadn’t yet watched it. Having just finished, though, I found that this scenario is not in the movie. However, it sounded familiar…

Does anyone know the name of the movie he was mistakenly talking about? I think it came out around the same time as “Orange County,” and someone had to make a movie or video to get their brother or friend or self into college.

Thanks!

His description sounds like “Orange County” all right (the film with Jack Black in it). He may have garbled things a bit, though.

Yeah, Jack Black’s character tried to help. But I do recall (I think) some character making a movie and sending it in to the admissions office. Oh well, maybe I’m garbling things too.

Reese Witherspoon’s character sent in an admissions video to Harvard Law School in Legally Blonde (mostly of herself in a spangly bikini), but I don’t think that’s what you’re thinking of – or is it?

No, probibly not… BUT IY COULD BE!!
I don’t think so though, HOWEVER…?

There’s a film from the early 90’s? called How I Got Into College, but that guy sent in his own video. That had Lara Flynn Boyle and Anthony Edwards with hair. That definitely did not come out the same time as Orange County, though.

i think in the commercials for the movie before it was released i remember seeing a clip of jack black making a video for him…maybe a deleted scene? or something else i dont know

Were you smoking crack while watching this? You do not remember the admissions review board scene in the movie? If Jack Black was in the movie then that is the Orange County your friend was speaking of. The commercials did feature this scene and it was extended in an extra feature on the DVD.

I just watched that movie and I don’t remember a scene about reviewing a video. And I wasn’t smoking crack!

Of course when I spoke of the DVD extras I was referring to this:

“…15 interstitials, which are simply custom-made promotional spots, most of which aired on MTV. While six of these are comprised of footage from the film, the other nine use original footage featuring Chad attempting to help Shaun create a video and peer recommendation for his college application …”

OK, if they were extra features, then I haven’t watched them. (No, there was no crack involved.) I watched the movie, but not the extras. So that must have been it.
