Help ID two(?) western movies

My brother wants to re-watch a couple of westerns he saw long ago – maybe the 60’s – and remembers as being good, but he has only really vague memories of them.

  1. Near the start, the hero is mauled by a bear, and left for dead while the rest of the pary goes on. He buries himself under leaves and twigs, somehow survives, and in fact, somehow ends up catching up with his original party.
  2. This may actually be part of the same movie, Brother isn’t sure: the hero and a crazy-ish older man spend a lot of time hauling a coffin around in an open wagon. He thinks the older man says the coffin contains his wife and he’s taking her to be buried at some particular place. Later on the wagon is overturned or runs off a cliff or something, breaking open the coffin, and revealing it contains a stone statue.

Do these ring bells with anyone?

First one is A Man in the Wilderness w/ Richard Harris. Don’t know the second one.

The second one * may * be one of the Django movies.
Django Kills or Django the Bastard maybe.

I’ve just checked with the IMDb, and japatlgt, I’m sure you’ve nailed the first one – I thank you on behalf of my brother.

BIH Boy. I can’t tell yet if either of those is the movie he was remembering, but I will pass along the titles. And, hey! Even if they aren’t, it’ll mean another couple of westerns for him to enjoy, so it’s good either way. Thanks!

I’m pretty sure the second one is an episode of “Kung Fu” because it stayed with me. That is the plot exactly, and there is this really funny exchange where the old man asks Cain where he is going and cain replies , “I seek Tao,” the old man then says something like “Taos, that’s in New Mexico.”

I believe the flashback had something to do with a warlord and Cain getting some off of his wife or something like that. Not sure. – I just checked, it is a two parter called “The Cenopath” and can be found here:

Aha, I do believe you’ve nailed it! My brother watched KF, and I guess a two hour episode could be remembered as being a movie – decades later.

Wait’ll I rag on him about it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks muchly!

Haw! Kung Fu does Faulkner! Who’da thunk it?
