Help make my 4th of July Fireworks playlist

I’m having a gathering tomorrow, and I’m trying to put together music to take my party from burger burning and frisbee throwing in the evening to drunken insanity and passing out in the yard by 4 am. I’ve got a handle on the whole thing, except for the fireworks show. Once it gets dark, I’ve got about half an hour’s worth of not-legal-in-my-state pyrotechnics to let off. It’s going be a prodigious show worthy of a substantial soundtrack.

While I’d love to choreograph the whole deal, the best I can hope for is setting the proper mood music. Some powerful stuff with lots of meaningless lyrics like “boom” and “bang”.

So I request the help of the esteemed SDMB cultural experts. I’m looking for songs that fit the following criteria:

  • Hard rock/Metal
  • About fire, burning, explosions, blowing shit up, or raw displays of power
  • Not unreasonably offensive or vulgar (it’s generally an audience I don’t care about offending, but gratuitous lyrics may detract from the show)
  • Age of the song is not a factor, the audience is bound to appreciate new stuff as well as some classics.

Some candidates so far…just a few obvious ones, and I like Rammstein =] …

Saliva - “Click Click Boom”
P.O.D. - “Boom”
Metallica - “Fuel”
AC/DC - “T.N.T.”
Rammstein - “Feuer Frei!”

I’m sure you all can do better…so have at it. Thanks in advance for your assistance. I owe a beer to those with the good suggestions.

The 1812 Overture Tchaikovsky

Ride of the Valkyries Wagner

Smoke on the Water Deep Purple

The Battle of Evermore Led Zeppelin

Free Bird Lynyrd Skynyrd

And, if the cops come to shut down your illicit display, you really should have

I fought the Law cued up, just in case handcuffs ensue…

1812 Overkill from extrememusic.com
•A number of selections from the soundtrack to Trinity and Beyond. (I’d suggest Hiroshima/Nagasaki Requiem and/or China Gets the Bomb)
•You might try the soundtracks to Conan the Barbarian or The 13th Warrior, maybe even Gladiator. (If blowing things up with artificial hellfire in defiance of the laws of Nature and Men doesn’t make you feel like a God already, this stuff sure as heck will. )

For the record, I am assuming you are kidding about the illegal fireworks. Yes.

If you don’t play Jimi Hendrix’s “Star Spangled Banner”, we’re taking your flag away and shipping you out to the Third World.

“If I Had A Rocket Launcher” - Bruce Cockburn

“4th of July” - X

“Boom, Boom, Out Go The Lights” - Pat Travers

Although you didn’t ask for classical, one great track would be the “Mars, the Bringer of War” movement from Holst’s symphony The Planets. It’s the closest thing to metal in classical, if you know what I mean.

Springsteen’s “Born in the USA” has practically become a 4th of July Anthem.

“You Dropped a Bomb on Me” by the Gapp Band

“Burn” by Deep Purple

“Burning Sky” by Bad Company

“TNT” by AC/DC

“Rocket” by Def Leppard

Fire by The Jimi Hendrix Experience

and/or

Fire by The Crazy World of Arthur Brown

And follow it up with “Bad Boys” (a.k.a., the theme to “COPS”).

There’s also “Start a Fire” by the Tiger Lillies.

Buring Down the House by the Talking Heads

Not hard rock but The Night I Painted the Sky by Jimmy Buffet is about shooting off fireworks.
