I’ve heard a few songs by them that I loved (“The Way We Get By” and “Car Radio”), and I really want to hear more by them, but I just don’t know where to begin. What songs do you recommend? Which album is the best for me start with? Are the two songs I listed representative of Spoon’s oeuvre, or are they anomalies? Teach me!
Dopers, help me become a Spoon fan!
I’m something of a Spoon fan, but am too poor to actually own any albums
I catch some of their tunes on an indie internet radio station, and can only recommend based on my experiences with the few (though variety of) songs they play.
I’d have to say though that they are not anomalies, Spoon is a really really good band.
I find that I’m fonder of their more recent albums than their older ones, so with that preface I recommend giving the album “Kill the Moonlight” a listen. It has “The Way We Get By” on it, as well as “Small Stakes,” “Jonathan Fisk,” “All the Pretty Girls Go to the City,” and my personal favorite, “Don’t Let it Get You Down.”
Thanks, soulmurk, although when I said “anomalies” I was referring to the two songs I listed, not to Spoon itself. Just to clarify.
I started with the “Girls Can Tell” album and now I am a fan.
ugh. I love Spoon. They put on a remarkable live show.
In addition to Girls Can Tell and Kill the Moonlight, I suggest A Series of Sneaks. More of a lo-fi feel, and some of their catchiest stuff.
Is this “Spoon” the same Korean rock/metal band that I know of? I bought a CD of theirs when I Was in Korea and it is realy good, though I doubt thats who you are talking about.
Nope, this would be a 4 piece from Austin, TX.
SPOOOOONNNN!!!
[sub]somebody had to say it…[/sub]
Ah, my beloved Spoon! My favorite tunes include Fitted Shirt and Everything Hits at Once…
Yeah, they rock.
Just bought Girls Can Tell today…
Let us know what you think! It took a few listens to grow on me.
I have Telephono. It sounds a lot like the Pixies, so its pretty good. I probably need to buy another of their CD’s. I’m listening to “Nefarious” right now, great song.
I have Series of Sneaks and Kill The Moonlight, which I think is near phenomenal, one of my favorite 2002 purchases. Lisa, if you like Girls Can Tell, I’d make Moonlight your next acquisition.
