What album or song have you been consistently spinning lately?
For me it’s Spoon’s entire discography. These guys totally rock me. I saw them live for the first time the other night and they were great. Their newest album Gimme Fiction is awesome.
I’ve also taken to playing ‘Rebellion’ by the Arcade Fire, ‘Stereo’ by Pavement, ‘Fortress’ by Pinback, ‘Caring Is Creepy’ by The Shins, ‘Chicago’ by Sufjan Stevens, and ‘Me and Mia’ by Ted Leo a lot lately.
Concrete Blonde : Bloodletting, Depeche Mode : Violator and The Singles 81>85, Cocteau Twins : Heaven or Las Vegas, and a mixed bag of Linkin Park, Nine Inch Nails, Tool, Ministry and Danzig songs.
People shifting books around and flipping through papers at my library.
Okay, okay… I’m currently making my way through a couple of jazz albums and relaxing to Coldplay’s X&Y, then grooving around the house to Norah Jone’s Feels Like Home.
music-wise, the Gordon Lightfoot box set and London Calling by the **Clash **today. At work, it’s been Van Morrison’s last couple cd’s.
In the car it’s a Gregory Isaacs cd, an old one not sure of the name.
Right now? Jefferson Airplane’s live album Bless it’s Pointed Little Head.
Before that I had the Irish trad band Dervish’s Live in Palma album, and before that Zoot Sims with the Joe Castro Trio Live at Falcon Lair (Castro was screwing tobacco heiress Doris Duke; this was a jam session recorded at her Beverly Hills estate, a mansion once owned by Rudolph Valentino).
I’ve been listening to Green Day’s American Idiot album religiously since it came out. For the past few years I’ve heard nothing but inane drivel and even though it’s debatable whether Green Day’s older albums are better than this album (I happen to like this album better), it was a breath of fresh air compared to some of the ‘music’ that’s been playing on the radio. Listening to actual lyrics that had a message rather than listening to songs that consisted of nothing but hooks made me feel like music may very well come out of its rut.
So yes, Green Day’s new album, Linkin Park, Evanescence and the Foo Fighters. I’ve been in a happy mood, can’t you tell?
The last three albums I listened to were Clutch’s Pure Rock Fury, Týr’s Eric the Red (why aren’t these guys wildly famous?) and Arcturus’ The Sham Mirrors. Later tonight I’ll probably throw on some Atheist, Earth or My Bloody Valentine.
I’ve been listening to Fiona Apples new disc as well as David Grays. Both are brilliant. I just found Citizen Cope. Then there are the old stand-bys of Green Day and Kelly Clarkson.
I hesitate to re-mention it, as my original thread on the subject sunk like a stone, but I am listening to the collected works of early recording superstar Ada Jones, till the neighbors complain . . . (You must hear her version of He Lost Her On the Subway!)
I’ve been mostly listening to older stuff: scratchy jazz, and fifties cabaret stuff. I’ve been doing a lot of Eartha Kitt and Blossom Dearie.
Also some more recent ambient/trippy/instrumental stuff that’s hard to genre-fy: equal parts rock, jazz, electronic, and hip hop, like Psyco on da Bus and Fridge and Four Tet and Nobukazu Takemura.
