Help me beef up my "dreamy" music playlist

I don’t know if this is in the right genre, but how about Naked Eye by Luscious Jackson?

I have this album. My favorite song is “Untitled” (seriouslly, untitled #6 is really good. My friend used it as her ceremony song at her wedding)

A little too heavy on the snare for my playlist

Thievery Corporation?

They’ve made a lot of music, and a lot of it would fit your bill. My friends and I often use this as our chill-out music (driving home after a late show, hungover and seeking a little peace, etc)

A Gentle Dissolve

I love the band and have seem them numerous times. This song is a lil too horn-heavy for my tastes tho. I think I might use this one tho (remix)

I don’t think so, I think it’s only an EP of the same name.

Another mini-genre you might want to check out is “ethereal voices”. Look for stuff released by the Projekt label.

There’s also about a zillion dark ambient bands out there (some of which cross over into neofolk)–I’d just start poking around on Youtube to see if you stumble across anything you like.

And to represent the 206, check out Joy Wants Eternity–they’re sort of dreamy stoner rock.

Lots of good stuff already covered. I’m thinking some C86 stuff might go down well. Allow me to recommendThe Pastels.

You might also want to search for “heavenly voices”; both terms have been used.

From the Classiacal World:
-“Aquarium”-Camille Saint Saens
-“Neptune”-from The Planets-by Gustave Holst

Maybe these are too obvious, but: Glory Box

I, Monster’s cover of Daydream/Daydream in Blue

Anything by The xx or Warpaint.

What about some of the more trancey Krautrock stuff, like from Neu!?

For example, Hallgallo (you may recognize the opening as perhaps being an inspiration for the Smashing Pumpkin’s “Cherub Rock”) or Isi. I find both these to be ethereal and transcendant, but not quite what one would categorize as “dream pop” or anything like that.

A lot of my shoe-gaze favorites have already been cited, but, unless I missed it, there was no mention of Snowpony (which has members from both MBV and Stereolab)–‘Amsterdam’ is a cut from their second full length that I think fits the bill pretty well.
Also: Azure Ray–all of their stuff is pretty lush and dreamy. And a few tracks from Madder Rose come to mind, as well—‘Baby Gets High’ is my favorite.
Oh, also, don’t know if anyone mentioned it yet, but Hope Sandoval has two solo albums that are even more opiate-esque than her work with Mazzy Star, if that’s possible. ‘Suzanne’, off the first one, is one of my favorites.
Oh! And Lisa Germano’s album about being drunk, ‘Liquid Pig’, has a lot of good songs in that vein, as well.

Missed the edit window–
ETA: and maybe DJ Shadow’s first LP, ‘Endtroducing…’ Also, I know someone said Yo La Tengo, but since they have so much stuff, I’d like to suggest that ‘And Then Nothing Slowly Turned Itself Inside Out’ would be particularly fruitful. Also, Coco Rosie’s ‘K-Hole’ is quite dreamy, as well as the first U.N.K.L.E. album.

Elika - You’re Not Safe At All

Slowdive - Souvlaki Space Station

Aimless Device - Waterloo Bound

Dead Can Dance - Avatar

Felt - Trails Of Colour Dissolve

More an afterthought since I just posted in the covers thread:

Nada Surf - Where Is My Mind (Pixies)

Oh and speaking of Pixies:

Pixies - Wave Of Mutilation (U.K. Surf version)

Just wanted to thank everyone for their suggestions - I used a lot of them and this is now my current favorite playlist! Perfect for the early morning drive to work among other situations. I wish there were an easy way to post the entire playlist.

I’m late to this thread, but have a few that I didn’t see listed by anyone else:

Moments In Love by Art Of Noise
Koyaanisqatsi (the whole soundtrack) by Phillip Glass (link to the entire movie!)
Side 2 of David Bowie’s album Low (Warszawa, Art Decade, Weeping Wall & Subterraneans)
Slowcar To China by Gary Numan
Life In A Northern Town
I Did It Just The Same by Eurythmics
I have a whole mix tape I made about, oh, <mumblymumble> years ago of Mellow Tunes; I’ll see if I can find it and list others later.

Ulrich Schnauss - Far Away Trains Passing By

I third or fourth the recommendation of early Lush, esp. De-luxe, although anything off their first LP (which was a compilation of their early EPs) would work. I discovered that song on the Rock Band 2 playlist a year or two ago and whenever you look it up on the 'net, there’s always comments by many others who found it the same way. Those guys hadn’t been a band in like 10-12 years, but all of a sudden they started getting royalty checks again. Not enough to quit their day jobs, I’m sure, but I’ll bet more than one nice dinner has been purchased.

Also, anything off Belly’s first album, Star; their second album rocks a little harder and I doubt there’s much that would qualify.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to put De-Luxe on the ol’ iPod.
