My gf’s kindle is a sixth generation paperwhite. It has served her well, but she has noticed decreased battery life, plus she needs a new case, so she has asked me to order her a replacement. She is happy with everything about her current kindle.
Before I place the order I thought I’d check to see if anyone has any advice on which one to order.
I’ve had a Paperwhite in the past and currently have an Oasis. Given that the Paperwhite has been updated more recently than the Oasis and is mostly on par for features, I’d get the Paperwhite now unless you really like the side grip of the Oasis.
Thank you for that advice. If I was shopping for a kindle for me I would definitely wait. My gf, however, does not “believe” in sales and would rather get what she wants now regardless of price (at least when talking about things less than a few thousand dollars).
With that in mind, you cannot go wrong with the Paperwhite.
When I bought my Oasis, the new screen with the more sophisticated lighting had not made it to the Paperwhite yes, so the decision was a little different. The Oasis has seemed to languish for a while without any changes.
Try resetting the Kindle Paperwhite and letting it update the operating system. I had the same problem, had to charge every day, bought a new Kindle and moved all the books over. Then I reset the old Kindle and it updated on wifi and now I have two Kindles, both with a battery that lasts more than a week.
The new one last longer and have a larger screen, so I’m not that unhappy.
Just chiming in for Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition. I used to have an Oasis but they stopped releasing updates, so I recently bought the Paperwhite and I’m extremely pleased with it. Much better battery life, a bit faster navigation, better design, IMO. My biggest challenge was finding a case that I liked.
They’ve stopped releasing updates for the Oasis? It feels like I just bought mine! And it’s it just me or were they kind of overpriced?
If I could manage to hold the Paperwhite in one hand without turning pages inadvertently, that would be the one for me. Since I can’t, it looks like I’m better off sticking with the Oasis.
The last time I checked, the most basic model was comparable to the Paperwhite I bought years ago. So any of the current models should be at least adequate.
Yes, and, by updates I mean new hardware, not software. It looks like the most recent Oasis model is the last.
Yes, they were overpriced, but Kindles are my weakness, I used to buy a new model every year. The Oasis was so satisfying I stopped doing that for several years, but I felt the desire for an upgrade recently and got the Paperwhite Signature, for less than the Oasis cost.
Every time I spill water on my Oasis or drop it or generally do something that would really upset my phone if it were in the thin rubber case I got for the kindle, I think maybe it wasn’t too much to pay. I’ll use it for as long as I possibly can, just so I don’t feel I’ve been too much of a spendthrift.
I think the Oasis was one of the best models of Kindle among the ones I had. The Paperwhite Signature edition is also waterproof. But at the time the Oasis was released, it was the only model that was waterproof, and I read in the tub a lot, so that was/is a great feature. I do miss the slightly larger screen size on the Oasis. I don’t miss the page turn buttons as much as I thought I would.
