We got a Whirlpool last year, and we’re happy with it so far. It’s got the “PowerScour” option where you face your dirtiest dishes towards the back and it’s got special jets to blast the crud off. It’s also got a four-hour delay option and the sanitize button. I also like it because the silverware basket is in the door, so there’s more room on the bottom rack. Not especially quiet, but quieter than the old one.
Miele Excella Series G2670SCVI - $2,049.00
OK - I understand the niceities of high-end stuff.
But, really, who NEEDS 19 wash programs?
snark: and it doesn’t even have a front panel.
When buying a dishwasher, please make sure you get an Energy-Star certified dishwasher. Prices for electricity, water, and gas for hot water heating are just going to go up, and you could end up paying alot more in the future over a small difference now.
We wound up buying this one. We went to the store yesterday and looked at a bunch of them and liked this one. It seems to have the features that we need and we got a decent deal on the install.
ZenBeam, the system in the store did the same thing for us when the salesperson was ringing up our order, but she said that it something in the system and that the salesperson would call today or tomorrow to arrange the actual delivery time.
We are getting stainless because the rest of the appliances are stainless with the exception of the old oven that is getting replaced in the next year. Besides, we will possibly be moving in the next five years. Anyhow, stainless has been around for a few years and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.
Thanks everyone for the advice.
I logged in to my Consumer Reports account and searched for dishwashers that they have tested, under $600 with a stainless steel look option.
One was a “Best Buy”: Bosch SHE33M0[2]UC (score of 80)
Two were “Recommended”: Kenmore (Sears) 1373[2] (score of 80), Whirlpool DU1100XTP[Q] (score of 77)
Other high scorers were: Whirlpool Gold GU2455XTS[Q] (score of 78), Whirlpool Gold GU2700XTS[Q] (score of 76), GE GLD4600N[WW] (score of 75)
You’ll have to go look up the other options yourself, sorry. But hope that helps!
Hopefully you’ll have better luck than I. Do you have an actual delivery time from the installer yet? I got a call from the installer just this morning, looking to install it on the 26th. I told her I wasn’t interested unless they could deliver it before Christmas, and that I had canceled the order because of this. She said the 26th was when it would be available to pick up from the warehouse.
The whole thing didn’t make any sense to me. The website must have been getting that date from somewhere. Since different models had different earliest available dates, it wouldn’t have been the installer’s date.
Looks like the OP has had their question answered, but I thought I’d relate this anecdote anyway:
When my (then) girlfriend (now wife) moved in, she started to use the dishwasher, and wasn’t happy with the job it did. I mentioned to her that that was the reason I never used it, and that I was pretty well convinced that dishwashers as a whole were worthless - I had never had one that worked worth a damn. She was unhappy about hand washing, and started to persuade me to get a new washer. Of course, I figured that was a waste of money, because I didn’t think that any were worth buying. Finally, I gave in, and agreed to buy a new washer, mostly to be able to say “I told you so.” We decided on a Kenmore, a few steps down from the top of the line (not the stainless steel interior). After using it a few times, I apologized to her and admitted that it really does work. we use it several times a week, and it always gets everything sparkling clean (we do rinse everything before loading the washer). So, I guess I’m a dishwasher believer now.
I have an incredible dishwasher (2 actually since the previous owners of the house were Kosher-or so the realtor told us). Anyway it is a Bosch…unbelievably quiet, you can put gross crusty dishes in it and they come out clean. It also has all these great (removable) compartments for baby bottles and other weird shaped stuff. It’s the only dishwasher I’ve used where I can put a sippy cup lid in it, without taking it apart, and it comes out squeaky clean. It’s also the only dishwasher I’ve used where the “potscrubber” option actuallly works. Highly recommend the Bosch.
I just spoke with the subcontractor and they told me, they are available Christmas Eve to do the work.
From what I can tell, they farm the work out to a sub contractor who in turn installs the dishwasher. The sales person wasn’t all that certain what those dates were either. I’m keeping my fingers crossed to see.
Update.
The installers came on Christmas Eve to install it. They were supposed to arrive on a 4:00 to 7:00 window, but came ten minutes early. They hauled out the old one and put in the new one.
So far, it works great. I’ve used it on the formula bottles and it works well. The cycle I use for the bottles is slow, but it sanitizes them. The machine itself isn’t all that noisy, and we don’t hear it from the next room.
