Help me clean my tea maker.

I have a Mr. Coffee type of maker that I use to prepare my tea in the morning. I add the water at night and place my loose tea holder in the carafe. In the morning I just hit the switch and pour the results into my thermos and carry it off to work. Only used once a day, five days a week.

Anyway, the issue is pink mildew forming in the water reservoir. The reservoir is constricted and virtually impossible to get into to scrub with a sponge or paper towel.

I usually don’t use vinegar to decalcify the unit. When it quits working, I just get a new one. They usually last two years or so.

Would vinegar remove the mildew? If not, what would remove the mildew and still be safe to use?

You could try a baking soda solution.

I had a tea-maker which did the same thing (though I usually end up breaking them before they get old enough to grow mold. Yes, I’m a clutz.)

What I did was make a half-and-half bleach/water solution and run it through the machine. Afterwards, I ran four or five cycles with just clean water. That did the trick.
