We’re building a website dedicated to information on higher education. In addition to a search function for looking for schools/programs, there will be narrative content of three kinds: news stories, informational features (financial aid, picking a major, interesting programs, etc.), and blog posts. This material (there will be additions daily) will be listed on the homepage in a single box titled … um. “Breaking news” is misleading, since probably less than a third will be “news.” “Resources” is vague and boring – is there a punchier synonym for that?
Most of the time the best and most clever implementations of this sort of thing I’ve seen are references (in some fashion clever, punny, wry… whatever) to the main name or theme of the website.
If the website is about coffee an information header might be “Percolations”. If it’s about music “Hot Tunes”. etc. etc. Obviously my clunky examples aren’t solid gold, but you get my point.
It may be a little too “young” for the intended audience, or too informal, but a buddy and I used to refer to the company bulletin board in the break room as Mr. Cork. Too cutesy?
