Hi All
I’ve been following a thread in another forum about “Ice Road truckers”. Lots of interesting stories and experiences from truckers all over the world driving in all kids of conditions.
One of the contributors to the forum told about seeing some photos taken up in Scandinavia somewhere where the truckers would take short cuts across the ice.
His words now:-
It was ‘spring’, especially dangerous, and he (the photographer) must have been shooting from a car traveling parallel to a huge 3 axle prime mover (tractor) towing a huge 3 axle semi-trailer. It was ploughing ahead at what may have been 90kph through deep surface water (MUST have been a diesel!), but the focal point was the driver.
He must have had a brick on the throttle, because he was standing on the running board (old American style rig), door closed, steering with his right hand through the open window, all ready to jump if the ship went down!!
We have tried to trace this photo without success. Can the Teeming Millions of this great Straight Dope message board succeed where others have failed and produce a copy of this photo or at least point me in the right direction.
Thanks to all.
