Help me find a new toaster.

The toaster we’ve had for 30+ years decided it was time to retire this week. It was a good toaster: reliable, toasted evenly, popped the bread up high enough to grab. We mourned. Then we looked for a new toaster. We tried two then looked at Consumer Reports and read some online reviews of the toasters CR recommended - I’ve never seen such disparity! About half really like a toaster while the other half lothe it! It seems the last thing toasters do now is toast bread. They’re all bagel toasters (no one here eats bagels) and do 50 things, none of them well. It’s the 21st century, surely we’ve perfected toasters by now?
So we’re still looking for a new toaster and I thought who better to ask then the teeming millions?

What we want from the toaster
[ul]
[li]Non-bagel if possible, since we only toast thin slices of bread[/li][li]Even toasting on all sides[/li][li]Some kind of browning level choice (our old one had numbers - 1 for light, 9 for burnt)[/li][li]Pops bread up high enough to grab without putting fingers in the toaster[/li][li]Deep enough for full slices of bread (current one we’re trying doesn’t and the top bit of the bread goes untoasted, grr!)[/li][/ul]

Feel free to commiserate, recommend, share stories of the toasters of your childhood…

Thanks in advance.

I’ve been partial to the Sharon Valeri model Toaster myself, Rowr!

Just stay well clear of Talkie Toaster™ (Patent Applied For…) it’s cheap, nasty, and obsessed with serving toast

I recommend this brand.

Two years ago my wife threw away a perfectly good toaster oven because it was too big and we have limited counter space. We’ve been using the broiler and a cookie sheet ever since. No toaster for us. Yup.

I just ordered a kitchenaid four slice toaster from Amazon. KitchenAid KMTT400OB 4-Slice Metal Toaster, Onyx Black and Stainless. It has 4.5 stars out of five. It should arrive on Friday. I’m hoping this is a good one. There are so dang many useless worthless toasters out there. It’s amazing that toast should be so difficult to do well.
