Help me find an Eowyn reference (LOTR)

Okay I’ve managed to find what I’m looking for relating to Eowyn in Return Of The King (because handily my copy of that book has an index) however its companion second volume is lacking such a feature so I must ask you my fellow dopers.

At what point in TTT do we discover that Eowyn is an orphan.

I’ve tried searching the text at what seem to be relevant points but I just can’t wade through the prose.If any of you could tell in what chapter I should be looking or even the general place in the storyline you would have my thanks.

I don’t know that it’s explicitly stated in TTT that she’s an orphan, only that she’s the ward of her uncle. However, it is made pretty clear in the Appendices to ROTK in the histories of the Rohirrim.

In the EE TTT DVD we find this out as the people of Rohan are heading towards Helms Deep. Maybe that will help?

Two pages before the end of “The King of the Golden Hall” chapter, we have the following:

I have no child. Theodred by sone is slain. I name Eomer my sister-son to be my heir.

and

‘In whom do my people trust?’
‘In the house of Eorl,’ answered Hama.
‘But Eomer I cannot spare, nor would he stay,’ said the king; ‘and he is the last of that House.’
‘I said not Eomer,’ answered Hama. ‘And he is not the last. There is Eowyn, daughter of Eomund, his sister.’

I couldn’t find any place where we are specifically told that Eomund and the king’s sister are dead, but clearly they’d be around if they were alive. This is not a culture where the old folks retire to a condo in Florida.
