OK, I’ve heard all the Christmas standards by now–Merry Xmas Everybody, I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day, I Believe in Father Christmas and what have you. Now I’m in a rockin’ mood and looking for something a bit heavier…
So can anyone recommend me any good Christmas punk songs or punk covers?
From a compilation made by my sister:
Root Boy Slim and the Sex Change Band–Xmas at Kmart
The Damned–There Ain’t no Sanity Clause
Los Lobos–Rudolph the Manic Reindeer
Spinal Tap–Christmas with the Devil
I’m also fond of Merry F**king Christmas and Christmas Time in Hell from Mr. Hanky’s Christmas Classics.
I’ve always liked Fairytale of New York, a fractured fairytale, as covered by No Use For a Name. Of course, the original by the Pogues is better, but has a less punkish flavor.
A Fairytale of New York is the best Christmas song ever.
Oi to the World and Fuck Crhistmas have already been mentioned.
How about: White Christmas by Still Little Fingers 12 Days of Christmas by The Yobs Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer by Poe (slow and lounge-y, not punk)
8 replies and no mention of the Ramones yet? Put down the glue and break out Merry Christmas, I don’t Want To Fight Tonight. It can be found on the album Brain Drain. Gabba Gabba Hey!!!
GG Allin’s “12 Days of Christmas” 7" and the Butthole Surfers “Good King Wencenslaus” pic disc 7" are good for a few laughs. Good luck finding them though. I ain’t parting with mine. Another good Fear xmas tune is “Another Christmas Beer” from one of the newer Lps…either American Beer or Have Aother Beer With Fear. The most punk in spirit Christmas song though is Father Christmas by the Kinks.
