I need some suggestions/recommendations for good (free) Internet radio stations, preferably that I can listen to with Winamp (but not a requirement). I am looking for stations that play rock - alternative, classic, metal, punk, etc. They can be purely online stations or real stations that stream live online.
I really like http://www.radioparadise.com. It’s “ecletic adult alternative,” or somethin’ like that. I like the variety, lots of stuff you don’t hear on the radio.
Try Launchcast. You choose what you like and it’ll stick with those groups, and suggest similar ones. Once you set it up, you’ll get something custom-made for you.
ChroniX is a shoutcast channel available through Winamp. Pretty good station. Actually, just search through the shoutcast radio listing in Winamp and you’ll find lots of stuff.
Yeah I have pretty much exhausted the stations I have found through Shoutcast, and wanted to find some new ones. My favorite was XRM, which plays alternative rock, but I realized pretty quickly that it plays like the same 100 songs over and over, so it got old pretty quickly.
I don’t listen to a lot of internet radio, but when I do, I usually listen to AccuRadio. You can choose a particular genre if you like. You can also deselect up to five artists that you absolutely don’t want to hear - there is a list on the left side that tells you possible artists who may come up. Ie: I hate Oasis, and I don’t want to hear them. So if I listen to the BritPop station, I can check the little box, and hooray! No Oasis!
I like the “Flock of Eighties” station there, myself.
WKLH is Classic Rock, and was one of the first, if not the first in the nation to call itself that. Their morning crew, Dave & Carole have been pretty amusing together for 20 years, but their sidekick idiot man-child KB is sort of a poster boy for the “Anti Straight Dope”, spreading ignorance since 1993 or so.
You can link to their webcast from their homepage.
Having said all that, I must admit I am really getting royally sick of their standard classic rock playlist. But some of their deep cuts really take me back.
