I’m putting together an experiment for one of my seminars, and to do it properly I’m going to need a whole bunch of 2-5 second video clips that show people displaying fairly unambiguous emotions. Specifically, I’m looking for stuff that shows either anger or joy. I don’t watch a great deal of TV, however, so I’m having trouble figuring out where to look. I’ve had some luck with The Sopranos and The Simpsons, since Tony and Homer both tend to get angry very easily and very expressively, but I’m having more trouble finding scenes that show joy.
I can’t youtube from work (firewall) but go there, type in “Earl Weaver” in the search box and it should be the first link.
Though playing it up for the fans a bit, old Earl was never one to shy from speaking his mind.
Oh and the language is definitely NSFW.
Well, there’s THIS. It can only just be called “video” - maybe - but it’s got pretty impressive anger levels.
Edit: contains naughty words - probably not work safe
Well… there is this (Possibly NSFW - lots of shouting - German profanities!) German kid who is less than happy about his computer. I feel pretty certain that the poor boy is suffering from some kind of “rage syndrome”, but he is, nonetheless, the angriest person I have seen.
How about the police chief of Malibu in The Big Lebowski?
Tape the crowd reaction shots at a Maple Leafs game.
Thanks for all of the suggestions so far! This is helping a lot.
I’m actually looking for both; I’m going to use them to elicit priming, so I’ll be sitting people down and showing them an ungodly number of 2-5 second clips, and testing if there’s a relevant correlation between the type of unambiguous emotion that’s being acted out (in this case, either joy or anger) and the various types of feedback they provide, we write about it. If there isn’t, we write something slightly different. And sometimes we’re lucky and the bulk of the subjects do stuff we didn’t expect, which makes for a really neat paper.
Moving thread from IMHO to Cafe Society.
The Angriest Man in the World-- “Winnebago Man” Jack Rebney.
NSFW.
Mr. Rebney’s outtakes are well known. And there’s more that have been recently discovered:
Winnebago Man II
Winnebago Man III In which Mr. Debney starts speaking gibberish (was he the inspiration for The Sims?) and replaces lines he forgets with “the ferns and the docks.”
What could be more joyful than kids at Christmas?
Beat ya by 12 minutes.
There was a tribute (if that’s the right word) to this, which I can’t find now, of a middle-aged man in an office, calming working away at his computer while following the same monologue. Anybody?
When it comes to non-human anger, you can’t beat Daffy Duck. This is a close-up?
How about the Bus Uncle?
