Help me find the name of an old space command game!

Did you have a particular game in mind?

“Lost in Space”? “Space Hamsters”? C’mon, give us a clue…

DAMMIT! I had a huge list of stuff written up. It was a game called something like Star Command, Starship Commander or Space Command (although not any of those three). Here’s a list of what I remember from it:

You could fight in space and on planets.

There were different classes of crewmen, like Medical, Security, Engineering, etc.

When you landed on planets, you could choose the crewmen you sent down and arm them with small arms. You could pick up some things in the map too.

The goal of landing on planets was that you would put security crewmen in a corner and they would build a perimeter fence. You had to do this with all four corners, and then you would win the map. You would get money for it.

You start off in a small ship, I think it was called something like a gnome. You could buy other ships and weapons, I remember one of the ships looked a lot like the Enterprise.

You would go to starports to buy new weapons, recruit crewmen, and repair or buy ships.

There were about 16 races you could play, and each started in a different part of the galaxy.

There was a funky animation when you went into warp drive.

It was real-time.

I have searched everywhere for it, and I can’t remember what it was called. I looked for the CD in my basement to no avail. So I turn it to you, teeming millions!

How long ago was this? Do you remember anything about the name of the company that made it? Maybe even what type of computer it originally ran on? Could if be classified as abandonware or is this fairly recent?

Well, it’s NOT Star Control I or II.

Platform?

I’m 99% sure what you are describing is Command Adventure - Starship which I think was published by Novalogic, but I’m having trouble tracking down any information on the Web right now. Does that ring any bells?

OK, Command Adventure - Starship seems to be it. Here is a site with a full description of the game and it seems to match yours.

If it is Command Adventure: Starship, then you can get it here.

If not, then there’s a good chance that that site will have your game.

Do you guys know how much you kick ass? That’s awesome, dead on!

Wow, great site Bromley. I never thought I’d see It Came From the Desert again.

becareful on that site …I think the mods frown on abandonware sites since there still copyrighted material

but I love home of the underdogs cuase its pretty good if ya looking for anything 5 years and older

Number - check out the Cinemaware site, where they’re giving away most of their oldies for free  .

nightshadea, yeah, I thought about whether to post the link or not. Still, the fact the HOTU is still there after the ~5 years that I’ve been online would seem to indicate that the companies themselves don’t care, but point taken.

Actually i think the game is called space command or star command… the one they referenced is a much newer game (not sure if it’s a remake).

The old one was only CGA mode exactly like what you mentioned. Unless you’ve played the later version which is that they’ve mentioned and is better in graphics…?

magiusmajere, the messages you are replying to are about ten years old. We tend to call threads like this “zombies” since old threads like this are basically dead and you’ve revived it. Expect a few zombie jokes to follow. Don’t expect the original folks to reply. Most of them are probably no longer around.

Since this thread is so old, I’m closing it.

If anyone wants to discuss old space command games, they may do so in the Game Room.
