A few years ago I came across some printed matter about “conservatism” and its complaints against “liberalism” with a satirical twist.
In it, “Conservative Bill” (or some other fairly common male first name) is rolling down the road, content in his feeling that his independent, politically conservative approach to life has led to his prosperity. The narrator keeps remarking about how various aspects of his life have been affected by political initiatives.
The initiatives involve a great number of things that affect “B” either directly or indirectly. They affect the car he drives and the roads that he drives on. They affect his health and safety in the workplace. They even affect whether his aged father will have adequate physical care and living funds without his son “B” going broke supporting him.
These things all have one thing in common. They all represent initiatives by modern-day liberals. None are the results of the actions of modern-day conservatives.
The interesting thing is that as all of these boons are listed, the most prejudiced and hostile conservative “voice” possible is used to append adjectives to the liberals responsible.
For example, there would be something along the lines as “Conservative ‘B’ did not die in an elevator accident at work. This is because a safety feature that some effeminate liberal union member insisted be added.”
Over and over the liberals are panned as irritating, elitist, and lacking in masculinity, among other things.
The piece concludes with Conservative “B” congratulating himself on being so self-effective, and not needing the government to help him with anything. This is in contrast to the weaker philosophy driving liberalism.
***Now, ***the whole thing is that I can’t find this anywhere on the web. I’ve tried both Google and Yahoo searches, so please don’t tell me that Google-is-my-friend.
I’ll be eternally grateful if you can help me find it. It would be especially helpful if you can find it by Wednesday (April 18th) morning. Thank you.
