Once again, a student at the college where I teach left her laptop in the classroom and it has gone “missing”.

I know that a year or so ago, I saw a gizmo gadget that you could attach to your laptop and put a device on your keychain and, when you walked a few feet away from your laptop, the keychain would beep and warn you that you were stepping a bit too far from your laptop computer.

Anyone ever recall seeing this? It wasn’t all that expensive and sounds like something many of my students should invest in - but I can’t find the product or link.

I find that a cable lock deters casual theft quite well and I use such locks on laptops, desktops, even bags.

You can easily make yourself some cable locks which cost next to nothing and may prevent theft.
