Help me find this old Samurai movie

Very vague recollection of a Samurai traveling, he might have been out to seek revenge for the destruction of his village, but it’s been so long, I might be mistaken on that point.

On his travels though he encounters other samurai who have some sort of disability. one is missing an arm, another is blind, another is deaf, etc. Seprate they are worthless, but as a unit they are unbeatable!

Anyone care to take a guess?

I’m sure I’ve seen it but I can’t think of it. Big help, huh? I just mainly wanted to say that I love samauri movies. I just recently saw The Seven Samurai, Yojimbo and Sanjuro for the first time. Have you ever seen The Twilight Samurai? I’d put a link in but I’m posting via my iPod Touch and I don’ know how. It’s a great movie though, worth seeking out.

I don’t know what this movie is either, but I’ll be checking back because someone will know and it sounds good. I just wanted to come in and second Equipoise’s reccomendation for the Twilight Samurai which was a great movie.

I’ve added the Twilight Samurai to my Netflix queue

Great! Thanks for the props Anna Nimity (wonderful username!). I didn’t know anyone but me had ever seen it. I can do links now so here’s the IMDB page for The Twilight Samurai. It’s a very unusual, quiet, subdued movie, not a lot of action until the end, and shows the samurai as a homebody widower, raising his kids and taking care of his disabled mother, and falling back in love with a childhood crush. And, due to circumstances, finding he has to polish up his samurai skills, which have rusted quite a bit.

If you don’t get an answer to your question here, you should post the description on one of the samurai movie IMDB boards, such as Seven Samurai. Experts on the genre abound.

Yeah, Twilight Samurai is an awesome movie. But it has absolutely nothing to do with the OP.

Is it possible that it was a kung fu movie and not a samurai movie?

Could it be Crippled Avengers?

There’s a whole genre of crippled kung fu movies, so if Crippled Avengers isn’t it, you might try Googling those words.

Yep! That was it. Damn it, I could have sworn it was a Samurai movie. Thanks!

This thread got me to thinking about a samurai movie I had seen years ago. A little googling turned up the title, Shogun Assassin. All I remember is the kid in the cart, the blades hidden in the cart and lots and lots of blood.

I had no idea what the movie was, but based on the description I was 100% certain it came from the Shaw Brothers Studio. I was correct.

My all-time favorite Shaw Bros. movie is Death Mask of the Ninja. I was very puzzled the first time I saw it, as there are no masks or ninjas in the film (plenty of death, though). I later found out is is also called “Shaolin Prince”, which makes much better sense.

The manga that’s from is Lone Wolf and Cub, which is absolutely fantastic.
