I think it was Tony and a Russian stripper. She said something about how Americans think everyone’s life has a happy ending, in Russia they view life as a tragedy. Does anyone know the quote or episode?
I think you’re thinking of THE STRONG, SILENT TYPE, where the line is “That’s the trouble with you Americans: you expect nothing bad ever to happen, when the rest of the world expect only bad to happen – and they are not disappointed.”
(Tony’s reply, of course, is “Well, that’s a fuckin’ grim outlook.”)
Yeah I think you’re right. But I think the character saying wasn’t a stripper, though. I believe that was the one legged Russian “nurse” that Tony slept with.
I could be wrong though, as it’s been quite a while since I last watched The Sopranos.
That would’ve been Svetlana Kirilenko, the one-legged nurse who was the cousin of Tony’s regular mistress Irina Peltsin, who was a former stripper.
Well, yeah. Wesley Clark is a smart guy, and so would’ve found the line in short order if he’d been correct about it getting delivered by a stripper – and so I shrugged away the assumptions, and a googleable quote obligingly popped up.
Yup that sounds right. The fact that I was misremembering the quote and who said it is why I couldn’t find it. At least I got the show right, 1 out of 3.
Right. Svetlana was one of my favorite characters on The Sopranos, especially in her getting the best of Janice when Janice stole her prosthetic leg. She was tougher than most of the mobsters.
