Last year, my hair was much longer and always getting massively tangled. I decided to give myself a haircut; this may not have been a good idea. For some reason I cut a few strands down to the roots, and now there are some bristly hairs trying to grow back in. The thing is, I look ridiculous if I have a little thatch sticking up like that, so I keep on cutting it down to the roots. I still end up with a few very short hairs sticking straight up on the top of my head, however. Is there anything I can do beyond wear a hat every day and wait for it to grow back in? My job doesn’t allow us to wear hats so, at the moment, that’s not really an option. Please help me not look ridiculous.
Are the short hairs right where you usually part your hair, and could you use a different part to cover them up?
They are right where I part my hair. I don’t know if I could use a different part; can you change where it naturally is?
Sure, you just brush it a different way. How do you wear your hair?
You could also look into getting a few extensions where you did the damage. I’m no expert though, so I don’t know if that would work.
I just part it in the middle and let it fall to the sides, no bangs or anything like that.
Try parting it slightly to one side, just enough to cover the damage. For a week or so you may have to use a barrette or clip to hold it in place, but hair can be “trained” to part in a different place quite quickly and easily.
You can help by using a hair product. Wired is what I use. Then dry the hair in the direction you want it to go.
Can you explain how to do that? The part has always been naturally straight for me.
Sure. Do you typically blow your hair dry or not? If you do, then you can blow it in the direction you want it to part in, like not what you’d expect said.
If you don’t typically blow your hair dry, that works too, just use a comb to part your wet hair slightly to the right or left of center, making sure that you’ve pulled enough of it over to cover the bristle, then pin it in place with a barrette or clip. Let it dry that way, and it will stay parted when you take the clip out.
I usually blow dry, though not in a particular direction. I will give it a try, though. Thanks!
