We had a porch remodel done and I’m happy with the gate we are using:
It works just fine.
However our other porch has always been problematic wrt gating. It is a 6 foot opening with brick on one side and the house on the other. A few summers ago I bought a wooden freestanding gate that was a bit flimsy and is now falling apart from repeatedly getting wet.
So, any thoughts? Am I being too worried about drilling brick and house to connect a gate? What would you do? We want to be able to go in and out through the gate while keeping the dogs on the porch.
I would do a two-leaf gate, one side with a cane bolt into your pavers to stay static, the other side the operable side. There aren’t any issues anchoring to the brick or to the house, per se. On the house side make sure you’re lagging into stud framing, on the brick side you can use nylon inserts and lag bolts. You don’t have enough weight on either leaf to need more than 3 anchors on either side.
The other option would be to put baseplates on posts and anchor directly to the paving, but you’d still need one anchor at the top on each side to resist lateral loads (i.e., dogs running into it, people leaning on it).
PM me, I can throw together a little sketch of what I see in my head. I’m in this business
