If you had created a non-clickable link, it would probably be okay since anyone who wanted to go to it, they’d have to c&p the link.
You have to uncheck “Automatically parse links in text” to keep URLs from being turned into links. Otherwise, the board software will automagically insert the tags for you.
Wikipedia’s page on prank flashes:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prank_flash
Just a nice explanation of prank flashes and a list of prank flash sites, complete with full descriptions of what to expect from each site. I put it in as an non clickable link because even though it’s just a plain-ole Wikipedia page, there’s a screenshot of a video game that’s often used in prank flashes (some hideous looking ghoul girl, if you’re wondering) on it.
I’ve added spaces to the link, so you have to take conscious actions to get there, if you want.
The problem is, bubastis, that many people read the SDMB at work (for instance) and it’s possible to accidentally click on a link. So, wehn we say “no jack-in-the-box links” we mean “no jack-in-the-box links” … without advance OK from a Mod.
I got this link from another messageboard, but it’s not working now.

OK, my link seems to be working now, but maybe it needs to be broken up.
((No misunderstandings: please read the following with a whimsical and amused tone))
Rucksinator, I’ll assume you were just over-eager to provide a jack-in-the-box and so didn’t notice the Moderator’s stern warning earlier. Right? … because otherwise, I’d have to assume you were thumbing your nose at the Moderator and that would be, hmmm, let’s say “awkward.”
So, I’ve depleted your link and we’ll just say: please don’t be so fast to rush into things next time, skim through the whole thread before posting, right?
This is not new technology. In fact a friend of mine had one of these made for him back in 1986; Same features and everything, except that the one he had made could fit inside a 35mm film cannister.
This friend of mine (Charlie) brought it to Spanish Class in our Junior year of High School and hid it in the class. Everyone in the class was in on the joke except the teacher. By the end of class, she was going absolutely nuts trying to find it. We ended up revaealing it’s location to her, and she immediately confiscated it. But we pleaded with her to return it because we wanted to pull the same joke on our English teacher.
She gave it back to us and said, “Don’t you DARE tell her I gave it back to you!”
My bad. Between the time when I opened the thread and when I replied, there was a lot of talk about forum rules and “Jack in the box”'s that I didn’t read. I’ll be more careful in the future.
In my defense, my link isn’t the kind where an inadvertant click will cause screaming cats to fly at your face. If you get to the place where something scary happens, then you’re doing something that you probably shouldn’t be doing at work anyway.
But maybe I should just shut up and be content with a warning.
I made the intranet site for one of my old companies, and for halloween I made one of these for the site. (Checkin out my mornin comics and bugs list on the intranet do-di-do…WAH!)
This was a few months after the Michael Jackson arrest photos where you could see all the folds of skin at the point of his nose and various other scary things… MWAHAHAHAH
