I was hoping the SDopers might be able to help me name two types of puzzles:
(a) The first is quite commonly found at family restaurants - it’s that triangular, pegboard game where you have to leave only one peg standing. Is this commonly known as an IQ test puzzle, or something?
(b) The second puzzle may be lesser known: I am thinking of a geometric type of jigsaw puzzle where the pieces fit into a dodectigon (12-sided, sp?) plastic frame. The pieces can fit together in more than one way, so there is more than one solution. Now, the tricky part is that the pieces are various, irregular shapes (often asymetrical) which loosely interlock (as opposed to a real press-fit) by being placed next to each other.
All guesses appreciated…even if you might have an unofficial name or slang term for either of these puzzles. Thanks, Jinx!
Alvis, I googled on “tangrams” (tanagrams?) and saw a picture. They’re close to what I describe, but there’s apparently no outer plastic frame of any kind. In my case, the frame forced them to interlock, but technically, they laid close to each other… It’s close, but no cigar…I’ll keep digging a bit…
