I remember reading this during the 70’s or perhaps early 80’s. It was an intrigueing story about a man who had a life span, not limited in time, but in space. Us ordinary humans have virtually no physical boundries for where we can travel, as long as it’s done in our lifetime. This guy in the story, started out with unlimited time, but a shrinking space, where he could live.
It sounds somewhat, but not exactly, like a Norman Spinrad story, which I believe is in the collection The Last Hurrah of the Golden Horde, in which a guy takes a drug that lets him shuttle back and forth to different parts of his lifetime – he’s essentially immortal, but the only times he can live are those within the span of one lifetime. Apparently this drives most of the people who take the drug mad. Can’t recall the title. Circa 1973.
Thaks, but no. This is set in London IIRC. It’s not told by the guy living forever, but someone who met him as a young man, and now meets him again. The immortal (in time) guy now only has a city block where he can move around.
