I’ve played it but for some reaosn I cannot for the life of me remember the name of it.
It’s an action game, where you control some kind of rambo-type soldier. The entire view is from behind the back of said soilder, and the levels are basically him continually advancing on an enemy facility far in the distance in front of him, and if he reaches it, he blows it up. I rememeber the first level invovled going by a couple towers, several of which had snipers in them, and you could blow them up with a rocket laucher which automatically targeted them. Before you reached the end, you had fight a boss, which in the first level was an armored car.
I believe the first level had you advancing on a large building out in the desert, while the 2nd had you on an airbase going towards a hanger.
Does anyone know the game I’m talking about, because it’s been bugging me for a while.
Go to yesterdayland.com and look up video games (1980s). Maybe the game is called Ikari Warriors (my guess anyway). It is a kind of Rambo in the jungle type of game.
Did the game have a rotating joystick? So that you could turn your character to face any direction? If so, you’re looking at Ikari Warriors, or Heavy Barrel.
I know it’s not not GI Joe, but it is a lot like. It’s not cabal, if for no other reason that in cabal, you only advance after beating the level, rather then always moving forward. And it’s from behind, so it’s not Heavy Barrel or Ikari Warriors(and I’ve played both of those). I know it’s not Rambo 3, which is kinda like it.
Unfortunatly, Yesterdayland seems to be down for the past few days.
In the end of rounds in this game, they specifically refer to the bad guys as “bosses”, which you do too in your OP. Some of the play is sideways, and some is the over-the-shoulder you described.
This game is entirely from behind the shoulder/back. If it helps, you are shown a photo(usually black and white) of the objective to blow up before each mission.
Nope, that’s from above. The most similar games I’ve seen are Rambo 3(the arcade game), or GI Joe(the arcade game), where viewpoint is from behind the heros, at least from the first two levels.
I can offer no real help here, other than mentioning that I recall this game as well. And it was indeed none of the above, so far.
It was the behind the back view and auto-targeting rocket launcher that sparked my memory…
I seem to think that you had to collect every “power-up” religiously to have enough rockets to survive to the end of a stage.
Was it, in fact, an arcade coin-op game, or a cartidge for one of the older consoles? (or perhaps ported to one, from the other) It was quite a few years back, as I recall.
