This has been bothering me for a while; There was a game I played way back when that I remember only dimly, and not including the name.
It was roughly the same era as Magic Sword, I think, so…early 90s. It was an isometric view fantasy game featuring 4 characters, a knight (with a morning star flail thing), a sorceress, and two I forget - rather like a very much ‘teched up’ Gauntlet, since the characters were relatively large and detailed.
Sadly, I can’t recall too much else about it. Other than that it was brutally hard. Does anyone have a clue what I’m talking about?
A really really really long shot. But it sounds very vaguely like a Nintendo game called Knights Cross. Whether or not there was an arcade version, I have no idea.
No, it wasn’t actually a Gauntlet title, and it was sprite art, not 3d.
Sadly, I don’t have much to go on. Other than the info provided, and a vague memory of poisonous mushrooms. Oh, and the knight had at least two styles of attack - flinging his flail out in a very narrow straight line that did a lot of damage but was hard to hit anything small with, and whipping it around in a wide circle, which was easy to hit with but didn’t hardly do any damage.
It’s probably not it (primarily because it isn’t an arcade game as far as I know), but just in case you remembered that part wrong, my best guess is Arcus Odyssey.
