Me and my buddies poured a lot of quarters into this one. It was multi-player (3 joysticks), and you played one of three adventurers going through a jungle. There was a woman with a sword, a guy with a whip, and a guy with a spear. I seem to remember the spear-guy being ‘Zoltar’, or something like that, but I could be wrong. The two things I remember quite clearly were the weapon upgrades, which could make the spear throwable, the whip extend pretty much the length of the screen, and the sword more… Slicey, I guess… And the fact that in order to leave a level and get to the next part of the jungle, you needed to find a key. If you got to the exit and didn’t have it, the game would intone ‘There is no escape without the key!’.
Nah, this one was out in the mid 1980’s, and was very ‘pulp’-like. Characters looked 1930’s-ish. I keep thinking it was called ‘Jungle Doom’ or something like that.
You might want to have a look at MAWS. It’s a database of arcade games, in particular those supported by MAME, an arcade game emulator. There are probably some missing, but the list includes a few thousand games.
You can search by the keyword, and also by genre and category (more specific than genre), and year, and sort by them as well.
The only game I can think of is Cadash . It can apparently be played by 4 players simulataneously, although the photo of the cabinet only shows 2 joysticks. There are 4 characters to choose from: a Fighter, Mage, Priest (a female priest), and a Ninja.
Perhaps, assuming this isn’t correct, you could give a bit of detail about the type of game. Is it a beat-em-up, a platformer? You say Jungle, but what sort of setting (e.g. Medieval, modern day)?. Is is 2D or 3D? Some of those can be searched with MAWS.
It’s Dark Adventure. I hated, HATED being the guy with the whip, especially on the maps with a bazillion spiders, as you couldn’t attack a monster adjacent to you but only at a distance. Time to look for some screenshots, but I gotta post this just to validate my existence.
Heh! Yes, that was the game! Good lord, it was in the local arcade for a week. We pumped about 20 bucks a piece into it… And never saw it again!
And I do kinda need food badly… I’ll try not to shoot the food.
