I’ve got snippets of two movies that keep popping into my head, and I can’t remember what movies they’re from.
Number 1. The Baseball Snippet. I keep writing down my son’s baseball practice schedule, and whenever I write or read the word ‘baseball’ I hear this bit of a guy saying, “Baseball has been very, very good to me.” It’s an older black guy and he has an unidentifiable accent, so it comes out, “Base-a-ball has beeen berry, berry goot to me.”
My husband insists it’s from Major League, that it must be Pedro Cerrano (or as ivylass called him in another thread, President Allstate Palmer ), the voodoo-practicing player from Haiti (?) who sacrified live chickens in the locker room (and once a bucket of KFC chicken). I’m almost positive that’s not it.
Number 2. I teach preschool and have an afternoon enrichment program with three-year-olds. Some of them still nap, and are tired when they skip their naps and come to this program. One little girl lays on the floor and insists she’s tired (which I don’t doubt), but she still needs to get up and participate. I keep getting this image of kids in school with one kid sleeping with his or her head down on the desk ( I can’t even remember if it’s a boy or a girl) and the teacher slamming his hand on the desk and saying, “Wake up! This is no rest home!”
I just can’t place it at all.
This on is this guy who played a baseball player named (I think) Chico Esquala on the old Saturday Night Live TV show. That was his catch phrase. I’m no help on number 2.
Indeed. It’s probably been about twenty years since I saw that movie.
How ironic is it that I’ve had Don’t You Forget About Me stuck in my head pretty much all day since I opened this thread? (In spite of not knowing the lyrics.)
Na na na na na
Hey, hey, hey, hey!
Will you walk on by…
Or will you call my name…
Don’t, don’t, don’t, don’t
Na na na na na
Hey, hey, hey, hey!
Forget about me
Na na na na na
Hey, hey, hey, hey!
